A Montreal airport to Toronto car service is a pre-booked chauffeured car that meets your flight at Montreal-Trudeau (YUL) and drives about 540 km to your door in the GTA. Planning figure: $1,275–1,470 plus HST one way in a business sedan, all-in. The drive takes roughly five and a half to six and a half hours, and stops in Kingston or Ottawa can be added.
Montreal airport to Toronto car service: when it makes sense
Most people travelling between Montreal and Toronto fly or take VIA Rail, and for a single traveller that is usually right. The chauffeured drive earns its place in specific situations: an international arrival into YUL when the onward connection to Toronto is missed or cancelled; a family with a mountain of luggage who would otherwise haul it through two stations; a traveller who needs to stop in Kingston, Brockville or Cornwall on the way; or a group whose combined air or rail fares approach the price of one vehicle.
It also suits travellers who simply do not want another airport after a long flight. Once the bags are in the car, the day is over; you can sleep, work or watch the St. Lawrence go by.
What the fixed fare covers
TorontoAirportTransfer.services quotes one all-in price for the YUL run: the chauffeur, the vehicle, fuel, any 407 tolls used near the GTA, airport fees and gratuity, with HST shown separately. The planning band is $1,275–1,470 in a business sedan between Montreal and Toronto. A first-class sedan is roughly 50 per cent more; an executive SUV or luxury van about 25 to 30 per cent more; a Sprinter about 2.2 times the sedan fare.
The reservation engine shows the exact fixed figure for your flight, address and vehicle before you confirm. The long run is priced as a whole, so a slow afternoon on the 401 through Pickering does not change it. Our Toronto to Montreal route page covers the same drive in the other direction.
Chauffeur, flight or train: an honest comparison
| Option | Door-to-door time (typical) | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flight YUL–YYZ or YUL–YTZ | 3.5–5 hours including airports | Solo travellers, tight schedules | Security, baggage fees, delays |
| VIA Rail Montreal–Toronto | About 5–6 hours on the train plus station transfers | Solo or couples travelling light | Getting from YUL to a station with luggage |
| Chauffeured car | 5.5–6.5 hours door to door | Families, groups, heavy luggage, missed connections, stops en route | Winter weather on the 401 |
VIA Rail quotes just under five hours for its faster Montreal to Toronto trains, and the Montreal-Toronto corridor trains call at Dorval station, about 2 km from the airport, which is useful when the timetable lines up. A traveller with one suitcase and a train leaving soon should take it.

Meeting you at Montreal-Trudeau
Montreal-Trudeau is in Dorval, about 20 km west of downtown Montreal, and has one terminal building with separate areas for domestic, transborder and international flights. The airport's official site has the current layout. Dispatch tracks your flight and times the chauffeur to the actual landing: 60 minutes of waiting from landing is included on international arrivals and 30 minutes on Canadian and US ones, then 15-minute blocks.
The fare includes pickup at the airport's designated commercial pickup area; the chauffeur texts the exact door when you land. If you would like the chauffeur waiting inside the arrivals hall with a name board, which many first-time visitors to Canada prefer, add meet and greet at booking.
Arriving in Canada at YUL
If Montreal is your first stop in Canada, you clear Canadian immigration and customs at YUL before meeting the chauffeur. Most visa-exempt visitors flying to Canada need an eTA before boarding; US citizens do not. Declarations and exemption limits are explained by the Canada Border Services Agency. Allow for the customs line at busy times of day; that is why international arrivals include an hour of waiting.
Because you have already entered Canada in Montreal, there is no further border on the drive to Ontario. The Quebec-Ontario line near Rivière-Beaudette is just a provincial boundary sign on the highway.
The route: Highway 20, the 401 and the St. Lawrence
From YUL the chauffeur heads west on Highway 20 across the western tip of the island and onto the mainland, joining the 401 at the Ontario border. The Ontario section follows the St. Lawrence past Cornwall, Brockville and the Thousand Islands to Kingston, then along Lake Ontario through Belleville, Cobourg and Oshawa into the GTA.
A comfort stop is planned at one of the 401 service centres, typically around the midpoint. Tell us at booking if you would like a proper meal stop in Kingston, or if you need to reach a meeting there. Dispatch uses the 407 to bypass eastern GTA congestion at rush hour when it saves real time; the toll is already in the fare.
Continuing to Ottawa, Kingston or eastern Ontario
Not every YUL passenger is going to Toronto. Ottawa is about two hours from the airport; Kingston around three; Cornwall and Brockville less. We drive all of these, priced by the reservation engine for the exact address. Travellers bound for the capital can also use Ottawa airport transfers if a connecting flight to YOW works better, and Kingston car service covers Queen's University and the Kingston area.
Multi-stop trips are simple to book: add each stop in the engine, and the fare is still fixed before you confirm. Dropping one passenger in Kingston and another in Toronto is a common request from families.
Missed connections at Montreal
A cancelled or missed connection to Toronto can leave you facing a night in a Montreal hotel. If the airline cannot rebook you until the next afternoon, a car that leaves within the hour can have you home that evening. Call dispatch, give the flight you arrived on and your Toronto address, and we will tell you the fare and how soon a chauffeur can be at the curb. Short-notice availability depends on the hour, so call rather than book online for same-day runs.
Keep your airline receipts; some travel insurance policies and airline compensation rules may cover ground transport after a disruption, but that is between you and the insurer or airline.
Choosing a vehicle for five or six hours
On a long drive the extra space of a larger vehicle matters. A business sedan seats three with three bags. A first-class sedan adds legroom and a quieter cabin for sleeping or working. Families arriving from overseas with checked bags for a long stay should book the executive SUV or a luxury van, each with six seats and six bags.
Groups, sports teams and corporate delegations can book a Sprinter for up to fourteen people and their luggage; the fare split across a group often beats individual flights. Coaches for larger groups are supplied through vetted partner operators in our network and priced in writing by a coordinator.

Children and car seats
Infant, convertible and booster seats are available on request; add them at booking and the chauffeur installs them before arriving at YUL. Ontario and Quebec both require the right child restraint in a private vehicle, and the Ontario car seat guide explains each stage. On a drive this long, plan an extra stop for young children and tell dispatch. Our child car seat transfers page has more.
Winter on the Montreal-Toronto corridor
The 401 between Montreal and Kingston can see heavy snow and freezing rain, and lake-effect squalls east of Toronto can slow the Oshawa and Pickering stretch. Our cars run winter tires, and dispatch reads Environment Canada forecasts the day before. In a major storm we may suggest waiting a few hours for the plows, which is safer than pushing through at night.
Cancellations follow the sitewide rule from the booked pickup: more than 72 hours out is free; 72 hours or less is 10 per cent; 48 hours or less, 50 per cent; 24 hours or less or a no-show, the full fare.
What to expect on arrival day, step by step
Once the aircraft is at the gate, switch your phone on; dispatch will already have sent the chauffeur's name, vehicle and plate. Clear immigration and customs, collect your bags and follow the signs for ground transportation, or look for the name board if you added meet and greet. Text or call the chauffeur when you have your luggage, not before, so the car arrives at the door while you are standing there rather than circling.
The chauffeur loads the bags, confirms your Ontario address and any stops, and sets the temperature and music to your preference. Water is in the car. If you need local currency, a SIM card or a pharmacy before the long drive, say so; a short stop in Dorval is easier than a detour later on the 401. Then it is Highway 20 west and, a few hours later, your own front door.
Airport fees and parking at YUL
Airport authorities charge commercial vehicles for access and waiting, and those charges are already inside the fixed fare; you never pay a parking ticket or a curb fee on arrival. If your flight is very late and waiting runs beyond the included time, the extra is billed in 15-minute blocks, which dispatch will explain if it applies.
Getting into Montreal instead
If you are staying in Montreal before heading to Ontario, the airport's own transit options will do for the city leg. The REM light-rail line is being extended to the airport; according to REM the airport station is expected to open in 2027, so check before you rely on it. When you are ready for the Ontario leg, the chauffeur can collect you from your Montreal hotel instead of the airport.
Business travel and roadshows
Corporate travellers use the YUL run when a meeting in Montreal ends too late for the last convenient flight, or when a roadshow moves between Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto over two days. A chauffeured car is a working office, invoices can go to a company account, and hourly bookings cover the meetings in between. See corporate car service and long-distance car service for details.
