Dublin to Toronto Pearson is flown non-stop by Aer Lingus, Air Canada, WestJet and, seasonally, Air Transat, in about seven and a half hours. Air Canada lands at Terminal 1; the others typically use Terminal 3. Irish citizens need an eTA. A flight-tracked TorontoAirportTransfer.services chauffeur waits 60 minutes free from landing, with fixed fares to downtown from about $130 to $160.
Dublin to Toronto Pearson: airlines on the route
Dublin has one of the strongest links to Toronto of any European airport of its size, a reflection of the long-standing Irish community in Ontario. Aer Lingus flies the route daily, Air Canada flies it several times a week, WestJet adds weekly service in its schedule, and Air Transat operates in the summer season. The average flight is about seven and a half hours. Frequencies shift through the year, and some services are seasonal, so if you see an option in spring that disappears in November, that is normal. When booking with us, the only thing we need is the flight number of the aircraft that lands at Pearson.
Terminal guide for Irish arrivals
Air Canada is a Star Alliance airline and arrives at Terminal 1. Aer Lingus, WestJet and Air Transat typically arrive at Terminal 3. Codeshares are common on this route; Aer Lingus sells seats on partner flights and vice versa, and the aircraft you board decides the terminal, not the airline on the ticket. Check the "operated by" line in your booking and run the flight number through our terminal finder. One detail surprises some Irish travellers: Dublin's US preclearance facility is only for flights to the United States, so for Canada you clear border control on arrival at Pearson, not before departure.
When Dublin flights land and how the clocks compare
Most Dublin departures to Toronto leave around midday, putting arrivals at Pearson in the early to mid afternoon Toronto time. Ireland keeps the same clock as the UK, so Toronto is five hours behind Dublin for most of the year, and four hours behind for a couple of weeks in March and around the end of October, when the two countries change their clocks on different weekends. An afternoon landing suits jet lag well: stay awake into the evening, eat something light, and you will usually wake close to normal Toronto time the next morning. It also means your drive from the airport often meets the start of the afternoon rush.
Entry for Irish citizens: eTA and the working holiday
Irish passport holders are visa-exempt and need an eTA, applied for online through the Government of Canada's official eTA page for CAN$7. Ireland also has a youth mobility arrangement with Canada, and many young Irish people arrive in Toronto on an International Experience Canada (IEC) working holiday. If that is you, the process at Pearson is longer: after the primary check you are referred to immigration to have your work permit issued, based on your port of entry letter. Bring the letter, proof of funds and insurance documents as instructed in your IEC correspondence, and check the current requirements on the IRCC website before travelling.

Planning your pickup around a work permit
A work permit interview adds time that a normal visitor does not face. Depending on the queue in the immigration office, it can add anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple of hours on top of the usual customs process. Your included wait is 60 minutes from touchdown; after that, waiting is charged in 15-minute blocks. For IEC arrivals we suggest telling us at booking so dispatch can plan, and messaging the chauffeur once you have been handed your permit and are heading for the carousel. The chauffeur will not leave because the hour is up; you simply pay for the extra time actually used, which is usually far cheaper than rebooking.
Customs and baggage at Pearson
Visitors complete their declaration at a kiosk or eGate in the customs hall, then see an officer if required. The CBSA's kiosk and eGate guide explains the screens, and the optional Advance Declaration in ArriveCAN gets you into express lanes. Irish travellers often bring gifts of whiskey, chocolate or baked goods for relatives. Alcohol has a personal exemption limit for visitors, and meat, dairy and certain plant products are restricted, so declare everything and let the officer decide. Our detailed arriving in Canada at Pearson guide shows what to expect in the hall and baggage area.
Where the chauffeur waits and the meet and greet option
The fare includes pickup at the curbside commercial pickup area for pre-booked vehicles at your terminal, a short walk from the arrivals exit and clearly separate from taxis and rideshare. Your booking confirmation gives the door. Once you have bags, message the chauffeur and the car comes up to the curb. If you would like someone waiting inside the arrivals hall with a name board, add meet and greet at booking; the planning figure is $25–35. It is useful for working-holiday arrivals with no local phone yet, since you can walk straight out to a known face rather than finding Wi-Fi to send a message.

Neighbourhoods Irish visitors tend to head for
Irish arrivals are a mix of holidaymakers, family visitors, business travellers and new residents. Holidaymakers usually stay downtown, in the Entertainment District or near Union Station, within walking distance of the CN Tower, the waterfront and the Scotiabank Arena for a Leafs or Raptors game. Working-holiday arrivals often start in shared housing or short-term rentals in the west end, in areas such as Parkdale, Roncesvalles and the Junction, or in Etobicoke close to the airport. Family visitors spread across the whole region. Whichever it is, give the exact address; a short-term rental with a lockbox or a condo with a concierge desk both affect where the chauffeur stops.
Your first days: SIM cards, banking and settling in
For holidaymakers, a travel eSIM or roaming package is usually enough. For new arrivals staying months, a Canadian prepaid or postpaid plan makes sense once you have an address, and many providers have stores in the downtown malls. Canadian banks can open accounts for newcomers with a work permit and passport. Pearson has free Wi-Fi, which is how most Irish passengers message the chauffeur on arrival. Plugs are North American Type A and B at 120 volts, so bring adaptors for Irish Type G chargers. If your first week involves several appointments across the city, an hourly chauffeur can be more efficient than a string of separate trips.

Onward trips from Toronto
Niagara Falls is the first day trip most Irish visitors take, about 90 minutes to two hours from Toronto; a Pearson to Niagara Falls transfer can go straight from the airport. Ottawa, the capital, is roughly four and a half to five hours by car and worth a couple of days, with Parliament Hill and the ByWard Market; see the Ottawa city page. Kingston, halfway there, is a historic university town on Lake Ontario at the start of the Thousand Islands. Muskoka's lakes and cottages are two to three hours north and at their best in summer and during autumn colour in late September and early October.
Arriving from Dublin in winter
Between December and March, a mid-afternoon landing can mean snow on the ground, a wind chill well below minus ten and early darkness by five o'clock. Pack your warm coat in your hand luggage rather than the hold, because the walk from the terminal door to the car, though short, is exposed. Our vehicles run on winter tyres, and chauffeurs warm the car before you come out. Storms occasionally slow the 401 and 427 to a crawl, and on those days the chauffeur watches the Ontario 511 traffic map and chooses the least-affected route. For an onward drive to Kingston or Ottawa on arrival day in winter, consider stopping overnight in Toronto instead.
Irish Toronto: pubs, parades and sport
Toronto's Irish roots show up across the city, from long-established pubs downtown and in the east end to Gaelic games clubs that welcome new arrivals looking for a team. The city's St. Patrick's Day parade usually takes place on a Sunday close to 17 March; check the organisers' official channels for the year's date and route before planning around it. Many working-holiday arrivals find their first contacts through these clubs and community groups. If you are organising a night out for a group, a Sprinter for group transportation keeps everyone together and gets them home safely, at a fixed price agreed in advance.
Going home: the return flight to Dublin
Book your return transfer when you book the arrival. For a transatlantic departure, plan to reach the terminal about three hours early; our how early to arrive at Pearson guide explains the timing. Aer Lingus, WestJet and Air Transat usually depart from Terminal 3, Air Canada from Terminal 1. Evening departures for Dublin mean driving to Pearson in the late-afternoon rush, when the Gardiner, the 427 and the 401 all slow down; from downtown, 45 to 70 minutes is realistic at that hour. The chauffeur sets the pickup time for you, working back from the flight time.
Tipping in Toronto compared with Dublin
Irish visitors are often caught out by North American tipping. In Toronto restaurants a tip of 15 to 20 per cent of the pre-tax bill is expected, and card machines usually prompt you with preset options. Bar staff are tipped per drink or per round. Rideshare drivers are tipped through the app. On our transfers, the chauffeur's gratuity is already included in the fixed fare, so you can step out of the car without calculating anything; see our tipping and etiquette guide. Prices in shops and restaurants are shown before the 13 per cent HST, which is added at the till.
