Rome Fiumicino to Toronto Pearson is flown nonstop by Air Canada, ITA Airways and, in season, Air Transat. After a flight of roughly ten hours, TorontoAirportTransfer.services meets you with a flight-tracked private car, 60 minutes of included waiting from landing, and fixed all-in fares such as $115–145 to Vaughan and Woodbridge or $130–160 to downtown in a business sedan, before HST.
Rome to Toronto Pearson: why a pre-booked car makes sense
The Rome–Toronto route is one of the busiest family routes out of Pearson. On any given afternoon the arrivals hall fills with grandparents, cousins and suitcases full of gifts, and the curb fills with cars circling to pick them up. A pre-booked chauffeur takes the circling out of it. You book before leaving Italy, enter the flight number, and the dispatcher follows the aircraft from Fiumicino. When it lands, the chauffeur is already positioned near the terminal's commercial pickup area and messages you where to walk. The price, set in the reservation engine when you booked, covers the chauffeur, fuel, airport fees, any 407 tolls and gratuity, with HST shown separately. For families whose relatives cannot drive to the airport on a weekday, it is often the simplest answer. More detail on the service is on our Toronto airport car service page.
Airlines flying Rome Fiumicino to Toronto
As of September 2026 there are three main nonstop options between Fiumicino and Pearson. Air Canada flies the route year-round. ITA Airways, the Italian flag carrier, launched its own Rome–Toronto nonstop in 2024 using Airbus A330-900 aircraft. Air Transat adds seasonal flights, generally in the busier travel months. Frequencies change between the summer and winter schedules, so check your booking rather than relying on a list. Travellers from Calabria, Sicily, Abruzzo or the north often connect through Rome, Milan or another European hub; some years there are also seasonal nonstops to other Italian cities. For the transfer, the only flight number we need is the one landing at Pearson. Give us that, and delays on the earlier leg are already accounted for.
Terminal 1 or Terminal 3?
At Pearson, Air Canada and most Star Alliance airlines use Terminal 1, so an Air Canada flight from Rome will normally land there. ITA Airways and Air Transat are not Star Alliance carriers, and we do not publish their terminal from memory; airlines move, and a wrong terminal means a chauffeur on the wrong curb. Check the terminal on your e-ticket or airline app, or type the flight number into our Pearson terminal finder. If a family group is split across two flights, the free Terminal Link train connects the terminals in a few minutes. The differences between the two buildings, including walking distances and where the commercial pickup areas sit, are explained in our Terminal 1 vs Terminal 3 guide.
Arrival times and the six-hour difference
Toronto is six hours behind Rome for most of the year, and five hours behind for a few weeks in March and around the end of October, because the two sides switch daylight saving time on different Sundays. Flights from Fiumicino are daytime crossings, and they commonly land in Toronto from early afternoon into the evening, local time. Two things follow from that. First, you arrive when your body clock says it is late at night, and a long wait at the curb is the last thing anyone wants. Second, an afternoon landing collides with Toronto's rush hour. The drive from Pearson to Woodbridge on Highway 427 and Highway 7 can take 20 minutes at 1 pm and 45 minutes at 5 pm. The fixed fare does not move with traffic, which is one reason families prefer it to a meter.
Entry requirements for Italian citizens
Italian citizens are visa-exempt for short visits to Canada but need an electronic travel authorization (eTA) to fly here, according to the Government of Canada's entry requirements by country. Apply on the official canada.ca eTA page with the passport you will travel on. Older relatives sometimes renew a passport before the trip and forget that the eTA was tied to the old one; a new passport needs a new eTA. Dual Italian-Canadian citizens are a separate case: Canadian citizens, including dual citizens, generally need a valid Canadian passport to board a flight to Canada. If anyone in your party holds a different nationality, check IRCC's visitor pages for their own rule before booking flights.
Customs at Pearson: food, gifts and declarations
Italian travellers bring food, and Canadian customs cares about food. Declare everything edible on the kiosk or eGate screen, including cheese, cured meats, olive oil, sweets and anything home-made. Some items are allowed, some are restricted and some are refused, and the Canada Border Services Agency is the authority on what is permitted; declaring costs nothing, while failing to declare can mean a fine. After the kiosk you speak to an officer, collect bags and walk out to the arrivals level. Families are sometimes sent to a secondary check simply because of a declared food item, which can add time. That is exactly why the 60-minute included wait starts at actual landing rather than at the scheduled time. Completing the optional Advance Declaration in ArriveCAN before landing can speed up the kiosk step.
How the 60-minute wait works on a Rome flight
International arrivals include 60 minutes of waiting from the moment the aircraft lands. If your flight from Fiumicino is early, the chauffeur is already there. If it leaves Rome two hours late, the chauffeur's timing shifts with it and you pay nothing extra. After the first hour, waiting is billed in 15-minute blocks, and dispatch messages you before any extra waiting time starts. The usual reasons for running over on this route are a family trolley stacked with bags that took a while at the carousel, a secondary food inspection, or a missing suitcase from a tight connection in Rome. In any of those cases, send a short message to dispatch and we will tell you how long the chauffeur can hold.

Meet & greet for parents and grandparents
The fare includes pickup at the terminal's pre-arranged commercial pickup area, and many travellers are happy to walk out and meet the car. When the passenger is an older parent flying alone, someone who does not speak much English, or a first-time visitor, we suggest adding meet & greet. The chauffeur waits inside the arrivals hall holding a name board, takes over the trolley and walks your relative to the car. The planning figure is $25–35. It gives the family in Toronto a clear handover: the chauffeur can message you when your mother or father is in the car. If they also need a wheelchair from the aircraft, book airline assistance with the ticket, and the airline's agent will bring them through customs to the chauffeur. Read more on the meet and greet service page.

Where Rome travellers are going in the GTA
Toronto has one of the largest Italian-Canadian communities outside Italy, and our Rome arrivals reflect it. A large share of the families we drive are going to Vaughan, and especially Woodbridge, which has a long-established Italian-Canadian community; our Vaughan transfers page covers it in detail. Closer to downtown, Little Italy runs along College Street west of Bathurst, and Corso Italia lines St. Clair Avenue West around Dufferin, both full of cafés, bakeries and shops. Many families also live in Maple, King City, Bolton and Brampton. Business travellers from Rome, by contrast, head to the Financial District, the Mississauga office parks near the airport, or to hotels in Yorkville. Students go to the downtown universities.

Vehicles for families, cases and gifts
A business sedan takes three passengers with three standard bags. That is rarely enough for a family arriving from Italy for a month. An executive SUV (Escalade, Navigator or Suburban class) or a luxury van (V-Class or Pacifica class) carries six passengers with six bags, and a Sprinter takes up to 14 people and 14 bags, which suits a wedding party or a large family group landing on the same flight. If you are unsure, count checked bags and add one; boxes and oversized cases take more room than you expect. Stretch limousines and larger coaches for weddings and big events are provided by vetted partner operators in the LimousineWorldwide.Directory network, and a coordinator prices them in writing. Compare every class on the fleet page.
Child seats for young travellers
Families coming from Rome often travel with toddlers and young children. Whatever the exemptions for taxis and buses, we fit the right child seat for every child who needs one. We provide infant seats, convertible seats and boosters on request, free or at a planning figure of $10–15 each depending on the booking. Add them at booking with the children's ages so the right seats are installed before the chauffeur leaves for the airport. The Ontario government's guide to choosing a car seat explains which seat fits which age and weight. You can read how we handle installation on our child car seat transfers page.
Weddings, anniversaries and summer visits
Summer is wedding season, and many Rome arrivals are relatives flying in for a banquet in Vaughan or Woodbridge. We can combine the airport run with the wedding day itself: a Sprinter for the family from Pearson on Thursday, a sedan or SUV for the bride's parents on Saturday, and a stretch limousine through our partner network for the bridal party. Wedding and multi-vehicle bookings are priced in writing by a coordinator rather than through the online engine. See our wedding limo page for how that works, and the family visits and reunions page for longer stays with several trips.
Onward trips after landing
Once relatives are settled, the next trips are usually close to home: Sunday lunch in Woodbridge, a day at Niagara Falls, shopping at the outlets, or a visit to family in Hamilton or St. Catharines. Visitors who came for longer often go to Niagara-on-the-Lake wineries or Muskoka for a few days. You can book each leg as a separate transfer, or keep a chauffeur by the hour with a three-hour minimum. For a day out with older relatives, an hourly SUV avoids parking and lets everyone eat and drink without worrying about the drive home.
The return leg to Rome
For the flight back to Fiumicino, allow at least three hours at Pearson before departure; with families, bag drops and gifts in both directions, many people leave more. From Woodbridge that often means a pickup four hours before the flight, in the afternoon rush. Book the return when you book the arrival, or any time later. The chauffeur drops you at the departures curb of the right terminal. Cancellation follows the sitewide rule: free more than 72 hours before pickup, 10 % within 72 hours, 50 % within 48 hours, and 100 % within 24 hours or for a no-show. Our how early to arrive at Pearson guide breaks the timing down by day and season.
Practical tips from our dispatchers
- Weigh cases before leaving Rome; baggage allowances differ by airline and fare, and repacking at Fiumicino is stressful.
- Give us a Canadian mobile number for the person waiting at home, so the chauffeur can confirm when your relative is in the car.
- If your relative does not use a smartphone, add meet & greet; a name board replaces the text message.
- Keep one small bag with medicines and passports out of the checked luggage in case of a delayed bag.
- Check the Toronto Pearson website for live arrivals before you leave home to welcome them.
