The taxi fare to Pearson airport depends on how the ride is priced. Cabs from Pearson's own stands charge a flat zone rate with taxes included; a street cab to the airport runs on the City of Toronto meter; rideshare floats with demand. A booked TorontoAirportTransfer.services sedan to or from downtown is a fixed $130–160 planning figure, all-in, plus HST.
Taxi fare to Pearson airport: the four ways a price is set
When people search for the Toronto airport taxi cost, they usually expect one number. In practice there are four pricing systems at work, and knowing which one applies to your ride explains most of the confusion.
- Pearson's on-demand taxis and limos, from the stands. The airport licenses its own fleet, and trips from the terminal stands to Toronto destinations are charged at a flat rate by zone, with no surge and taxes included.
- A City of Toronto taxi hailed or booked in the city. Going to the airport in an ordinary Toronto cab, you pay what the meter shows, which starts at $4.25 and climbs with distance and time.
- Rideshare apps. The price is set by the app at the moment you request, and it moves with demand, weather and flight banks.
- A pre-booked private car or limousine. Our reservation engine shows one fixed all-in fare before you confirm, and that is the fare you pay.
The rest of this guide takes each in turn, then compares them side by side for the trip most people ask about: how much is a taxi from Toronto airport to downtown.
Pearson's flat-rate taxis and limos from the stand
Toronto Pearson publishes its taxi and limo tariff by destination zone rather than by meter. According to the airport, its licensed taxis and limos charge flat rates to Toronto destinations, do not surge, accept major credit cards and include taxes in the quoted rate. The airport also notes that its limos, which are black cars, cost roughly 10 % more than its taxis, and that a surcharge of $15 applies for five or more passengers and another $15 for four or more checked bags or any oversize item. The official zone list and a fare estimate tool are on the Toronto Pearson ground transportation pages; we are not affiliated with the airport's fleet, and the exact zone prices change, so use that tool for today's figure rather than a number from a blog.
Third-party listings of the zone tariff generally put the downtown Toronto zones somewhere in the $60s and $70s for a taxi. Treat that as a range and check the official site before you rely on it.
Metered taxis from the city to the airport
The flat zone rates apply to rides from the Pearson stands. A regular Toronto taxi that you hail on the street or order to your hotel to take you to Pearson is governed by the City of Toronto's vehicle-for-hire rules, and the fare is whatever the meter reads. The city states that meters start at $4.25 and rise with distance and time; its taxi and limousine consumer page and the vehicle-for-hire licensing office explain driver obligations, receipts and complaints.
Because the meter counts time as well as distance, the same trip from a Front Street hotel can differ by a meaningful amount between a clear Sunday morning and a wet Thursday at 5 p.m. on the Gardiner. Many cab companies will quote a flat price to the airport if you ask when booking; if you want certainty, get that quote in writing or on the app before the car arrives.

Rideshare to and from Pearson
Uber and Lyft both operate at Pearson, with pickups at designated rideshare zones by the terminal doors. Their fares are set by an algorithm at the moment you request. On a quiet mid-afternoon the price to downtown can be close to a taxi; when several long-haul flights land together, in a snowstorm, or on the Friday of a long weekend, the multiplier can push it well past a booked private car. Waiting time at the zone, a vehicle upgrade to fit bags, and the choice between economy and premium tiers all move the number. The app will show the estimate before you confirm, so compare it against the flat stand rate and against a fixed booked fare before you tap.
Our longer comparison of limo vs Uber vs taxi vs UP Express goes into when each option makes sense.
Our fixed private fares from Pearson
A pre-booked TorontoAirportTransfer.services car is not a taxi, and it is not the cheapest way to cross the city. What it offers is a fixed all-in fare shown before you book: chauffeur, vehicle, fuel, airport fees, 407 tolls if we use the toll route and gratuity are all included, with HST added. Flight tracking times the chauffeur to your actual landing, and waiting is included for 30 minutes after a Canadian or US flight and 60 minutes after any other international arrival. These are planning figures for a one-way business sedan; the reservation engine quotes the exact address, date and vehicle.
| Pearson to / from | Business sedan (planning, + HST) | Executive SUV (about +25–30 %) |
|---|---|---|
| Downtown Toronto | $130–160 | $165–205 |
| North York | $105–135 | $135–175 |
| Etobicoke | $90–120 | $115–160 |
| Scarborough | $145–175 | $180–225 |
| Mississauga | $90–120 | $115–160 |
| Vaughan | $115–145 | $145–190 |
| Markham | $145–180 | $180–235 |
| Oakville | $120–150 | $150–195 |
| Billy Bishop (YTZ) | $145–175 | $180–225 |
| Niagara Falls | $345–420 | $435–550 |
For any address, the fare calculator gives the same kind of planning figure, and rates and fixed fares lists every zone and vehicle class.
How much is a taxi from Toronto airport to downtown?
Here is the honest answer to the most common question, taxi fare Toronto Pearson to downtown, laid out by method. Figures for third parties are ranges; the official sources are linked above.
| Method | How priced | Toronto airport to downtown cost |
|---|---|---|
| Pearson stand taxi | Flat zone rate, taxes in | Roughly $60s–$70s; check Pearson's estimator |
| Pearson stand limo | Flat zone rate, about 10 % over taxi | Slightly above the taxi zone rate |
| Rideshare (economy) | Dynamic, set at request | Varies widely; can exceed a booked car at peaks |
| Metered city cab to Pearson | Meter from $4.25 | Depends on traffic and route |
| TorontoAirportTransfer.services sedan | Fixed all-in, + HST | $130–160 planning figure |
Add a tip where it is not included. Pearson's stand fares include taxes but not gratuity; our fares include gratuity and show HST separately, so compare like with like.
Why a booked car costs more than the stand, and when it is worth it
A stand taxi is already at the curb. A booked chauffeur has to be dispatched, drive to Pearson, pay for commercial staging, track your flight and wait through immigration and baggage delays at no extra charge. That work is what sits in the difference between a zone rate and a private fare. It is worth paying when:
- you land late at night and do not want to queue at the stand after a long flight;
- you travel with children and need a proper child seat fitted before you arrive;
- there are four or more of you with luggage, where an SUV at a fixed price avoids stand surcharges and a second cab;
- a company is paying and wants one invoice with the flight and passenger name on it;
- you are going beyond the city zones, to Hamilton, Niagara or cottage country, where metered or zone fares add up.
If none of those apply and you are travelling light, the stand taxi or UP Express will usually be cheaper, and we would rather say so.
Time of day and the price of the meter
For the flat-rate and fixed-fare options, the clock does not change the price. For the meter and for rideshare it does. The weekday morning inbound rush on Highway 427 and the Gardiner runs roughly from 7 to 9:30, and the evening outbound rush from about 3:30 to 6:30. A metered cab heading to Pearson at 5 p.m. on a weekday can spend a long stretch crawling past Kipling and the 427 interchange, and the meter keeps running. Friday afternoons in summer, the days before Christmas and March Break departures are the heaviest. Overnight, both roads are clear and the drive to downtown can take 25 minutes.

Luggage, groups and surcharges
Most price surprises come from bags and headcounts. Pearson's stand surcharges apply to five or more passengers and to four or more checked bags or oversize items. Rideshare requires you to choose a larger vehicle class up front, and an economy car will not take a family's worth of suitcases. Our fares are set by vehicle class instead: a business sedan takes three passengers and three bags; an executive SUV or luxury van takes six and six; a Sprinter takes fourteen. Ski bags, golf clubs and strollers are fine if you list them at booking so dispatch sends the right car.
Child seats and accessibility
Ontario's car-seat rules exempt taxis, which is why a stand cab will rarely have a seat ready. We fit a proper infant, convertible or booster seat for every child who needs one, on request, added at booking; see child car seat transfers and the province's car-seat guidance. Travellers who use a wheelchair should look at wheelchair accessible transfers, which are arranged in advance.
Paying, receipts and tipping
Pearson's stand vehicles take major credit cards, and City of Toronto cabs must provide a receipt on request. Rideshare receipts arrive by email. Our fare is charged to the card on the booking with an itemised receipt, and because gratuity is already included there is nothing to calculate at the curb; tipping more is always optional. Corporate travellers can use a corporate account to consolidate invoices by cost centre.
Getting the lowest fair price
- Travelling solo with a carry-on to somewhere near Union Station: UP Express is the cheapest fast option.
- Leaving Pearson for a city address with one or two people: compare the stand zone rate with the app.
- Going to the airport from home at rush hour: a flat quote beats a running meter.
- Families, groups, heavy luggage, late arrivals, anything outside the city: a fixed-fare booking usually wins on total cost and stress.
- Business travel on an expense account: book a flat-rate taxi alternative and keep one receipt.
Where each option picks you up at Pearson
Stand taxis and limos load at the marked taxi stands outside arrivals at Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. Rideshare drivers meet you at the designated rideshare zones. A pre-booked chauffeur meets you at the terminal's pre-arranged commercial pickup area; the fare includes that curbside pickup, and meet and greet inside the arrivals hall with a name board is an optional add-on, planning figure $25–35. Our Pearson pickup rules and waiting areas guide shows each spot.

Booking and cancelling a fixed fare
Enter the flight number, address and vehicle in the reservation engine, confirm the fare, and dispatch sends the chauffeur's details before you land. Plans change: cancelling more than 72 hours before pickup is free; 72 hours or less is charged at 10 %, 48 hours or less at 50 % and 24 hours or less or a no-show at 100 %, measured from the scheduled pickup. Delayed flights are not cancellations; flight tracking simply moves the pickup.
