A private car from Toronto to Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF) takes about 1 h 45 min to 2 h 30 min door to door, depending on the border queue. TorontoAirportTransfer.services quotes a fixed all-in fare before you confirm; planning figures are $390–480 in a business sedan, plus HST, with tolls, bridge fee and gratuity included. Passengers need border documents; the chauffeur handles the route.
Toronto to Buffalo Niagara airport: how the run works
The Toronto to Buffalo Niagara airport trip is one of the most requested cross-border drives on our dispatch board, and it is simpler than people expect. Your chauffeur collects you at home, the office or a hotel anywhere in the GTA, drives the QEW around the lake through Hamilton and St. Catharines, crosses the Niagara River on whichever bridge has the shortest wait, and drops you at the departures curb at BUF in Cheektowaga, just east of Buffalo.
You stay in one car the whole way. Luggage goes in the trunk once and comes out at the terminal. Nobody transfers at a bus station, nobody drives their own car across and pays for a week of airport parking. If you want the broader picture of every border run we do, including Niagara Falls NY, Detroit and New York, our cross-border limo to the USA page covers the service; this page is about the Buffalo airport run specifically.
Planning fares from Toronto to BUF
These are planning figures for one way from central Toronto or Pearson. The reservation engine prices your exact address, date, time and vehicle, and shows the full fare before you confirm.
| Vehicle | Passengers / bags | One way, all-in (planning figure) |
|---|---|---|
| Business sedan | 3 / 3 | $390–480 |
| First-class sedan (S-Class / 7 Series) | 3 / 3 | about $585–720 |
| Executive SUV (Escalade / Suburban) | 6 / 6 | about $490–625 |
| Luxury van (V-Class / Pacifica) | 6 / 6 | about $490–625 |
| Sprinter van | 14 / 14 | about $855–1,060 |
HST is shown separately. The fare includes the chauffeur, vehicle, fuel, the bridge toll, any 407 ETR tolls if the chauffeur uses the 407 to get out of the city, and gratuity. There is no meter and no surge when the Peace Bridge backs up; the queue is our problem, not an extra line on your receipt. Pickups in Oakville, Burlington or Hamilton sit toward the lower end of the band, while Markham, Scarborough and Pickering pickups sit toward the top.
Why Canadians fly from Buffalo instead of Pearson
The reason is usually the ticket price. Buffalo is a US domestic airport, so a flight from BUF to Florida, Las Vegas or New York is priced and taxed as a US domestic trip, and families of four often find the saving on airfare more than covers the cost of the car. Low-cost US carriers serve Buffalo heavily, and some leisure routes simply have more departures from BUF than from Toronto in winter.
There is a second benefit: you clear US border inspection on the ground at the bridge rather than in the preclearance hall at Pearson, and then take a domestic flight with domestic security. For people who dislike long preclearance lines at peak times, that is a real attraction. The trade-off is road time, which is exactly why a private car makes sense: the drive is the part you can make comfortable. Check routes and airlines on the Buffalo Niagara airport website, which is run by the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA).
Choosing the bridge: Peace, Lewiston-Queenston or Rainbow
Three crossings realistically serve the BUF run. The Peace Bridge between Fort Erie and Buffalo is the most direct: you come off the QEW at the end of the highway and are on I-190 minutes after the booth, then onto the Kensington Expressway or I-90 toward the airport. The Lewiston-Queenston Bridge sits off Highway 405 near Niagara-on-the-Lake and joins I-190 south; it adds a few kilometres but often has a shorter car queue at busy times. The Rainbow Bridge in the middle of Niagara Falls is closest to the tourist district and is used less often for airport runs.
Dispatch checks the CBP border wait times and the Peace Bridge and Niagara Falls Bridge Commission traffic pages before the car reaches Grimsby, and the chauffeur commits to a bridge around St. Catharines. That late decision is what saves time on a Friday afternoon.

Documents every passenger needs at the border
The car does not carry anyone across without papers, and the chauffeur cannot help at the inspection booth beyond handing documents through the window. Under the US rules for land entry, Canadian citizens present a valid passport, a NEXUS card or an enhanced driver's licence; US citizens use a US passport, passport card, NEXUS card or enhanced licence. Canadian children aged 15 and under arriving by land may present a birth certificate or citizenship card, but you are also boarding a flight from Buffalo, so check what your airline and US airport security accept as identification; most families simply carry everyone's passport. CBP explains the land-border rules on its Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative page.
Permanent residents of Canada and visitors of other nationalities need the visa or visa waiver status their passport requires, and usually an I-94 record when entering by land; check your own case on cbp.gov before you book. If anyone in the car is refused entry, the chauffeur drives them back to Canada, and dispatch will talk you through options.
NEXUS in a private car
NEXUS only helps if everyone in the vehicle is a member. Dedicated NEXUS lanes exist at the Peace Bridge and the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge, and the Whirlpool Rapids Bridge in Niagara Falls is NEXUS-only. The rule covers the driver too, so when you book, tell us whether every passenger holds NEXUS and ask for a NEXUS-holding chauffeur; dispatch confirms whether one can be assigned, and when the whole car qualifies it routes you to a NEXUS lane, which on a busy weekend can cut half an hour or more off the crossing. If one passenger is not a member, the car must use the regular lanes, and we plan the timing accordingly.
Details of the programme, including how to apply or renew, are on the CBP NEXUS page and the Canadian CBSA NEXUS page. A card that has expired is not a NEXUS card at the booth, so check the date before the trip.
How early to leave Toronto for a flight out of BUF
Work backwards from the flight. Airlines generally want domestic passengers at the terminal at least 90 minutes before departure, two hours if you are checking bags at a busy time. Add the drive and the border, and pick the more cautious number for weekends and holidays.
| Pickup time and day | Allow door to door (downtown Toronto pickup) |
|---|---|
| Weekday, 5–6 a.m. | 1 h 45 min – 2 h |
| Weekday midday | 2 h – 2 h 15 min |
| Weekday rush hour (3:30–6:30 p.m.) | 2 h 30 min – 3 h |
| Friday afternoon, long weekends, March Break | 3 h – 3 h 30 min |
| Winter storm on the QEW | add 45 min or more; dispatch will call you |
For a 10 a.m. Saturday flight, most families leave downtown between 5:30 and 6 a.m. The chauffeur arrives 10 minutes early and the 15 minutes of included waiting at a point-to-point pickup still apply.
Coming home: pickups at Buffalo airport
The return run is the one people forget to book. After landing at BUF you collect bags, walk out to the pickup curb, and meet your chauffeur there; with the optional meet and greet add-on the chauffeur waits inside the baggage area with a name board. We track the flight, so a two-hour delay out of Orlando simply moves the pickup. Canadian and US arrivals include 30 minutes of waiting from actual landing, then 15-minute blocks.
Coming back into Canada you clear CBSA at the bridge, not at the airport. Have your passports out and know what you are bringing back: purchases, alcohol and anything bought in the duty-free. Our Buffalo airport limo page covers the airport end of the trip in more detail, including where cars wait.

Private car vs bus, shuttle or driving yourself
There are cheaper ways to get to Buffalo, and it is fair to name them. Intercity coaches run between the Union Station Bus Terminal at 81 Bay Street and downtown Buffalo, and shared shuttle companies run fixed departures to the airport. The per-seat price is lower than a private car for one person travelling alone.
The arithmetic changes with a family. Four coach seats plus a taxi from the Buffalo bus station to the airport, or four shuttle seats, still cost less than a sedan or SUV, but the gap per person narrows, and the car collects you at the door at the hour you choose. A coach also stops for every passenger at the border inspection, and you must be at the depot first. Driving yourself means US airport parking for a week, the bridge toll twice and a tired drive home after a late landing. A private car is the most expensive option, and the premium is steepest when you are alone; many travellers still pay it for door-to-door timing and the early-morning flights.
Choosing the vehicle for a BUF run
A business sedan takes three passengers with three large suitcases; that fits a couple or a family of three with checked bags. Families of four with car seats, golf bags or a stroller should book the executive SUV or the luxury van, which carry six passengers with six bags. For group trips, a hockey team heading to a tournament, or two families going to the same resort, the 14-seat Sprinter van for group transportation usually costs less per head than two SUVs.
Child seats are on request and added at booking; we fit a proper seat for every child who needs one. Our child car seat transfers page lists the seat types. Wheelchair users can book an accessible vehicle through dispatch; tell us at booking so the right car is assigned.
Winter on the QEW
From December to March the Buffalo run carries weather risk that Pearson runs do not. Lake-effect snow off Lake Erie can hit Buffalo and the southern tier hard while Toronto is dry, and the QEW over the Burlington Skyway gets strong crosswinds. Every car on border runs is on winter tires, and dispatch watches the forecasts from Environment Canada and the US National Weather Service the night before an early departure.
If a big storm is forecast, we will call you the evening before and suggest an earlier pickup rather than cutting it fine. If a US highway closure makes the drive unsafe, we will not send the car, and you will not pay for a trip we could not run. Most winter mornings, though, the drive is simply slower, and an extra 45 minutes covers it.
What happens at the border booth
The inspection itself usually takes one to three minutes per car. The chauffeur pulls up, lowers the windows, and hands all passports to the officer. The officer may ask each passenger the purpose of the trip, where you are flying, how long you will be away and what you are carrying. Answer plainly: "flying to Fort Lauderdale from Buffalo, back in a week". Don't carry fresh fruit, meat or plants you cannot declare.
Occasionally a car is sent to secondary inspection. That adds 20 minutes to an hour, which is why our timings include slack. The chauffeur is used to it and will not rush you. For more on returning to Canada, see our guide to arriving in Canada at Pearson; the customs rules on declarations are the same at the bridge.
Pearson to Buffalo: airport-to-airport transfers
Some travellers land at Pearson on an international flight and connect to a US domestic flight from Buffalo on a separate ticket, or fly into Buffalo and out of Pearson. We run these airport-to-airport transfers regularly. From Pearson the route is the 427 south to the QEW, and the timing is similar to a downtown pickup outside rush hour.
For an international arrival at Pearson, remember the included waiting is 60 minutes from actual landing, and customs at T1 or T3 can take a while. Leave at least five hours between the Pearson landing and the Buffalo departure; less is a gamble with the border in the middle. Our Pearson airport limo page explains where the chauffeur meets you at each terminal.
How to book the Toronto to Buffalo airport transfer
Open the booking engine, enter your Toronto address as pickup and "Buffalo Niagara International Airport" as the destination, choose the date, time and vehicle, and you will see the fixed fare with HST shown separately. Add the flight number for the return leg so we can track it. Mention NEXUS status and any child seats in the notes.
You receive a confirmation right away and the chauffeur's name and phone number the evening before. Cancellation is free until 72 hours before pickup; from 72 to 48 hours it is 10 % of the fare, from 48 to 24 hours 50 %, and inside 24 hours or on a no-show the full fare.
