A Billy Bishop FBO car service meets private and charter passengers who arrive at Toronto's island airport through the airfield's fixed-base operator, which as of September 2026 is Porter FBO in Hangar 6. TorontoAirportTransfer.services tracks the flight, stages the chauffeur at the mainland handover point the FBO confirms, and charges a fixed all-in fare. Bay Street is usually 10–20 minutes away.
Billy Bishop FBO car service: how it works
You book through the reservation engine on this page or at book a Billy Bishop private flight pickup. Enter "Porter FBO, Billy Bishop" as the pickup, your aircraft registration or flight number, the expected arrival time and where you are going. The engine returns one fixed price covering chauffeur, vehicle, fuel, airport fees and gratuity, with HST shown on its own line. There is no meter ticking while you cross to the mainland and no surge when a Leafs game lets out on the same evening. The dispatcher then confirms with the FBO, a day ahead, exactly where passengers are handed to ground transportation, because on an island airport that detail decides whether the handover takes two minutes or twenty.
Who runs private aviation at Billy Bishop
Porter FBO describes itself on its own site as the full-service fixed-base operator at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, located in Hangar 6. Its published hours are 5:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily, and it advertises a complimentary shuttle for passengers, a lounge and meeting rooms, crew facilities and aircraft parking. Those are the FBO's own statements as of September 2026; we are not affiliated with it and do not speak for it. Business traffic here is different from Pearson's: the airport's operating rules do not allow jet aircraft, so private and charter flights use turboprops and piston aircraft. Check the airport authority's site at billybishopairport.com for current operating hours and notices.

The mainland handover: where you meet your chauffeur
Billy Bishop sits on the Toronto Island, separated from the city by the Western Gap. Airline passengers walk a pedestrian tunnel of roughly 90 metres or take a very short ferry from the foot of Bathurst Street to the mainland terminal on Eireann Quay, where cars pick up and drop off. Private passengers leave through the FBO rather than the airline terminal, and the FBO arranges how they cross. Our chauffeur waits at the mainland point the FBO confirms for your flight, normally in the Eireann Quay drop-off area, with your name on request. We do not guess: dispatch asks the FBO for the handover point when we confirm your booking, and the chauffeur has the FBO's desk number in case plans change.
Flight tracking for island arrivals
Small aircraft arriving at the island are sensitive to weather. Fog off Lake Ontario, low cloud and strong crosswinds can delay arrivals or divert them to Pearson or Hamilton. We track the flight by registration or call sign from departure and adjust the chauffeur's staging to your real arrival time. If the flight diverts, dispatch moves the car to the new airport and quotes the new fare before the chauffeur leaves; you do not need a second booking. A Pearson diversion typically adds 25–45 minutes of road time, and our Pearson FBO car service page explains how the private terminals there work.
Ramp access at Billy Bishop
Because the airfield is on an island with limited vehicle access, ramp-side pickup by an outside car is rarely practical. Our standard service is a lobby-side or mainland handover, and we will only offer an airside pickup where the FBO permits it, arranges the escort and confirms the vehicle can reach the island for that visit. In practice most private passengers use the FBO's own arrangements to reach the mainland and step into our car there. If you have a mobility need or heavy equipment, tell us at booking; the dispatcher will ask the FBO what it can offer and plan the vehicle around its answer.
Customs on international private arrivals
Private flights into Billy Bishop from the United States must clear the Canada Border Services Agency before passengers leave the FBO, and the pilot arranges the report under CBSA rules. Members of the CANPASS private or corporate aircraft programs follow the reporting method CBSA sets for those programs; everyone else follows the standard general aviation process. Porter FBO's public pages do not publish customs details, so your pilot or charter operator should confirm clearance arrangements with the FBO and CBSA before departure. Official guidance is on cbsa-asfc.gc.ca. International arrivals from outside the US include 60 minutes of chauffeur waiting from landing, which normally absorbs clearance time; domestic and US arrivals include 30 minutes.
Drive times from the island to the core
This is the shortest airport run in the city. From Eireann Quay the chauffeur heads up Bathurst Street or along Queens Quay, then onto Lake Shore Boulevard or Front Street. Typical times outside rush hour are 8–12 minutes to King and Bay, 15–25 minutes to Yorkville, 10–15 minutes to Union Station and 12–18 minutes to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. At the weekday peak, or when an event is on at the Rogers Centre or Scotiabank Arena, allow 20–30 minutes to Bay Street. The Gardiner Expressway on-ramp at Spadina is the usual route west toward Oakville, Mississauga and Pearson.

Planning fares from Billy Bishop
Downtown hops from the island are short, so the reservation engine prices them by exact address and vehicle rather than a broad band; enter your destination to see the fixed fare. The runs that people plan around are the longer ones. The Billy Bishop to Pearson transfer, used when a private passenger connects to a long-haul airline flight, is planned at $145–175 in a business sedan, all-in plus HST; a first-class sedan runs about 50 % more and an executive SUV about 25–30 % more. The same connection is covered on our Pearson to Billy Bishop route page. For a day of meetings, the hourly rate is planned at $130–150 in a sedan with a three-hour minimum.
Vehicle choice for island arrivals
Turboprop cabins are smaller than jet cabins, so parties are usually one to six people with modest luggage. A business sedan suits one to three passengers with three bags; a first-class sedan is the choice for a principal who wants an S-Class or 7 Series; an executive SUV seats six with luggage and handles winter slush on Eireann Quay easily. A Sprinter makes sense when a small charter group travels together to a conference downtown. Browse the full fleet for seat counts and luggage capacity before you book.
Crew transport at Billy Bishop
Crews on overnights usually stay on the waterfront or at hotels near Union Station, which are minutes away by car. Book crew as a separate vehicle so they can leave when the aircraft is secured rather than on the principal's schedule. If the aircraft is repositioning to Pearson or Hamilton the next morning, we can collect the crew from the hotel at an early hour; the airport's opening hours and noise rules shape how early flights leave, so ask your operator for the planned departure time and we will work backwards from it. Flight departments can set up a crew account through corporate car service.
Catering and errands for island departures
Short-haul private flights still carry food, and downtown Toronto has no shortage of restaurants that will prepare a tray. We collect catering orders, documents and forgotten items and deliver them to the FBO's desk or the handover point it names, against a signature. Because an outside car cannot simply drive up to a hangar on the island, the item is handed to FBO staff on the mainland side unless they arrange otherwise. Plan for delivery at least 45 minutes before the pilot's cut-off. If an order runs late, the chauffeur calls the FBO directly so the crew can decide whether to wait or depart without it.
Discretion on a busy waterfront
Eireann Quay is a public place shared with airline passengers, cyclists and people heading to the island parks, so discretion takes some planning. Chauffeurs wear plain dark suits, park in the least conspicuous legal spot and do not display a name board unless you ask. They do not discuss the passenger, the aircraft or the trip with anyone, and they do not take photographs. When a guest needs extra privacy, the chauffeur can wait inside the vehicle and text on arrival rather than stand in the drop-off area. For clients who travel with protection, see VIP and executive protection transport.
Departures from the island
For a private departure, most operators ask passengers to arrive 20–30 minutes before the planned departure, and the FBO's closing time limits late evening slots. From a downtown office we typically schedule pickup 30–40 minutes before you need to be at the handover point; from Yorkville, 40–50 minutes; from Oakville or North York in rush hour, closer to an hour. The chauffeur drives to the Eireann Quay area or the specific point the FBO has named and walks you to FBO staff with your bags. If a meeting runs long, text dispatch; we move the pickup and tell the FBO if you ask us to.
Weather, fog and the lake
The lake shapes flying at Billy Bishop more than at any other Toronto airfield. Fog in spring and early summer, lake-effect snow in winter and gusty autumn crosswinds can all hold or divert small aircraft. We watch Environment Canada forecasts and live flight data, and the chauffeur is told of any change as soon as dispatch sees it. If you are departing and the FBO warns of a weather hold, we can keep the car on hourly time while you wait, or take you back to the office and return when the operator confirms a new time. Nobody is left standing on the quay.
Billy Bishop versus Pearson for private flights
Billy Bishop wins on proximity: the core is minutes away and the airfield is quieter than Pearson. Pearson wins on capability: it takes jets of every size, runs through the night and has several FBOs with larger hangars. Principals flying in a jet land at Pearson or Hamilton; those in a turboprop from Ottawa, Montreal or the US north-east often choose the island. Our Billy Bishop airport transfer page covers airline passengers on Porter and Air Canada, and the how to get to Billy Bishop guide explains the tunnel, ferry and traffic patterns in detail.
Booking checklist
Tell dispatch the FBO, the aircraft registration or flight number, your expected arrival time, the number of passengers and bags, and your destination. Add a mobile number for the lead passenger so the chauffeur can text from the handover point. Child seats are available on request; add them at booking. Cancellation is measured from the scheduled pickup: more than 72 hours ahead is free; 72 hours or less is 10 %; 48 hours or less is 50 %; 24 hours or less or a no-show is 100 %. The broader private jet and FBO transfers page lists every airfield we serve.
