Manchester to Toronto Pearson is flown non-stop by Air Canada, which lands at Terminal 1, and Air Transat, which lands at Terminal 3; frequencies vary by season. The flight takes roughly seven and a half to eight and a half hours. UK citizens need an eTA. A TorontoAirportTransfer.services chauffeur tracks the flight, includes 60 minutes of waiting and quotes a fixed fare before you book.
Manchester to Toronto Pearson: who flies it
The direct link between Manchester and Toronto is smaller than the London route, which makes it worth checking early. At the time of writing, Air Canada and Air Transat both operate non-stop flights from Manchester to Pearson, with Air Transat typically offering more weekly departures in the summer season and fewer in winter. Scheduled flight times range from roughly seven hours twenty to about eight and a half hours depending on winds. When the non-stops are sold out or not flying on your date, the usual one-stop options connect through London, Dublin, Amsterdam, Paris or Frankfurt. Whichever way you come, what matters to us is the final flight number into Pearson; that is the aircraft we track.
Terminal 1 or Terminal 3 after a Manchester flight
The two non-stop carriers use different terminals, which is the single most useful fact on this page. Air Canada arrives at Pearson Terminal 1. Air Transat arrives at Pearson Terminal 3. If you connected elsewhere, the operating carrier of your last leg decides: an Aer Lingus connection via Dublin, for example, typically lands at Terminal 3, while a Lufthansa connection via Frankfurt uses Terminal 1. The two terminals are linked by the free Terminal Link train, but your chauffeur waits at one of them, so we want to be right first time. Our terminal finder takes the flight number and gives you the answer, and dispatch double-checks it on the morning of arrival.
Arrival times and the time difference with Manchester
Manchester departures to Toronto tend to leave in the late morning or around midday, so most land at Pearson in the afternoon Toronto time. Manchester shares the UK clock, so Toronto is five hours behind for most of the year and four hours behind for a short spell in March and again around the turn of October into November, when the two countries change their clocks on different weekends. A 3 pm arrival feels like 8 pm, and by the time you are through customs and on the road it is early evening at home. That timing puts your drive into the start of the weekday rush, and it is the main reason we track flights rather than trusting timetables.
Getting the eTA sorted before you leave Manchester
British citizens do not need a visa for a visit to Canada, but they cannot board the aircraft without an approved Electronic Travel Authorization. It is a short online form on the Government of Canada's eTA page with a CAN$7 fee, and it is tied to the passport number you enter. The most common problem we hear about from Manchester families is a child's passport renewed since the last visit: the old eTA does not carry across, so apply again for the new passport. Grandparents travelling on older passports should check expiry dates too. Apply well before you fly; most approvals are fast, but some applications are held for extra checks.

Through customs at Pearson
Once you are off the aircraft, the route is signposted: walk to the customs hall, complete your declaration at a kiosk or eGate, speak with an officer if the screen or your answers call for it, collect your bags, then exit. Toronto Pearson's customs and immigration page explains the current layout. The optional Advance Declaration in ArriveCAN can be completed in the 72 hours before arrival and gives access to express lanes. Families often travel with gifts and food for relatives in Canada; declare anything with meat, dairy or plants, and keep receipts handy for goods you are bringing in as gifts. The CBSA website lists the personal exemptions for visitors.
How the 60-minute wait works for Manchester arrivals
Your included wait on an international arrival is 60 minutes from actual touchdown. On a quiet afternoon that is plenty. When a Manchester flight lands just after a cluster of other long-haul arrivals, the queue at the kiosks grows and bags can take a while to reach the carousel. If you think you will run over, send a quick message; the chauffeur holds on and extra time is billed in 15-minute blocks, which on a typical day amounts to very little. What you never pay for is a delay in the air. If your flight leaves Manchester an hour late, the chauffeur's timing moves an hour with it.
Where to find your chauffeur outside arrivals
The fare covers curbside pickup at the commercial pickup area assigned to pre-booked chauffeured vehicles at your terminal. This is not the taxi rank and not the rideshare zone, and your confirmation message names the exact door and level. Once you have your luggage, message the chauffeur; the car is usually at the curb within a few minutes. If you would rather be met at the exit from customs by someone holding a name board, add meet and greet for a planning figure of $25–35. It is a popular add-on for older relatives flying out from the North West on their own, and for anyone who does not want to use a phone as soon as they land.
Fares from Pearson for Manchester arrivals
A lot of Manchester passengers are visiting family rather than staying downtown, so the suburban fares matter as much as the city one. Planning figures, one way from Pearson in a business sedan, all-in before HST:
| From Pearson to | Business sedan | Executive SUV / luxury van |
|---|---|---|
| Brampton | $100–130 | $120–165 |
| Mississauga | $90–120 | $115–160 |
| Burlington | $150–190 | $190–250 |
| Hamilton | $195–240 | $250–315 |
| Whitby / Oshawa | $220–265 | $270–345 |
| Downtown Toronto | $130–160 | $160–205 |
| Barrie | $265–315 | $330–415 |
The reservation engine quotes your exact address, and the rates page explains each vehicle class.
Visiting family: where Manchester travellers usually go
Emigration from the North West of England to Ontario goes back generations, and the result is a steady flow of Manchester passengers heading to relatives in the western suburbs and beyond. Brampton, Mississauga, Burlington, Hamilton, Oshawa and Barrie all feature regularly in our bookings from this route, and the drive from Pearson to most of them avoids downtown entirely. If your family plans a welcome at the house rather than the airport, a chauffeur is often simpler than asking someone to fight the airport loop at rush hour. For bigger family gatherings later in the stay, our family visits and reunions page covers group vehicles and multi-stop days.
Big families and bigger luggage
Manchester flights are often full of families travelling together, sometimes three generations with a suitcase each and a few boxes of presents. Six people with six large cases fit an executive SUV or a luxury van; beyond that, a Sprinter for group transportation carries up to 14 passengers with luggage and costs roughly 2.2 times the sedan fare, which is often less than two separate cars. Tell us about pushchairs, wheelchairs and car seats at booking. Whatever the exemptions for taxis and buses, we fit the right child seat for every child who needs one. Our wheelchair accessible transfers page explains the options for travellers who cannot manage a standard step-in.

Weather: Toronto is not Manchester
Visitors from Manchester are used to rain, but Toronto's seasons are more extreme. Winters are colder and snowier, with January days below minus ten and occasional storms that slow the highways; our vehicles run on winter tyres through the season, and the chauffeur allows extra time. Summers are hotter and more humid than the North West, often in the thirties with the humidity factored in, so the car's air conditioning is welcome after a stuffy baggage hall. Spring and autumn are short and lovely. Pack a proper coat between November and March, and check the Environment Canada forecast before you fly, especially if you have an onward drive planned for the day you land.
Day trips once you have landed
Once the jet lag settles, most Manchester visitors want to see Niagara Falls, which is around 90 minutes to two hours from Toronto depending on traffic on the QEW. A Niagara Falls tour from Toronto can be booked by the hour with stops at Niagara-on-the-Lake. Families with teenagers often add Canada's Wonderland in Vaughan in summer. Cottage country in Muskoka is two to three hours north and busy on summer weekends. For each of these, the reservation engine gives a fixed price in advance, which is easier to plan around than a meter, especially if you are sharing costs with relatives.
Older relatives flying out on their own
A common Manchester booking is a parent or grandparent travelling alone to see family who cannot get away from work to meet the plane. In that case we suggest three things. Add meet and greet so there is a person with a name board at the exit, rather than a phone message to decode in a busy hall. Ask the airline for wheelchair assistance if the long walk from the gate is a concern; airline staff then bring the passenger through customs and hand over to our chauffeur at the exit. And give us the family's phone number as a second contact, so dispatch can send updates to the relatives as the flight lands and the car sets off.
Flying back to Manchester
Air Canada departures to Manchester leave from Terminal 1 and Air Transat departures from Terminal 3, so tell us your airline and we drop you at the right door. Aim to arrive about three hours before an international departure; our guide on how early to arrive at Pearson explains why. Evening transatlantic flights mean leaving the suburbs in the afternoon rush, and a trip from Oshawa or Hamilton at 4 pm can take well over an hour. The chauffeur calculates the pickup time from your departure time and address; if you prefer to be earlier, just say so when you book.
Money, phones and small practicalities
Canadian dollars are the currency, but cards and contactless payment work nearly everywhere, and your transfer fare is paid online at booking. For mobile data, compare a travel eSIM with your UK network's roaming option; a Canadian prepaid SIM is also easy to buy. Plugs are North American two-pin at 120 volts, so pack an adaptor for UK three-pin chargers. Prices in shops are shown before sales tax, which in Ontario is the 13 per cent HST, so a £20-equivalent item costs more at the till than on the shelf. Your fare with us shows HST as a separate line, so there are no surprises.
Tipping habits, Manchester versus Toronto
In Manchester a tip is often a rounding-up gesture. In Toronto it is part of how service workers are paid, and in restaurants 15 to 20 per cent of the pre-tax bill is standard; hairdressers and bartenders expect a tip too. The good news for your airport ride is that the chauffeur's gratuity is already built into our fixed fare, so there is nothing to calculate in the car. If you want to show extra thanks for help with heavy cases or an unplanned stop, it is welcome but entirely optional. The tipping and etiquette guide explains the local customs in more detail.
