There is no dedicated coach shuttle from Toronto Pearson to Union Station; the closest thing is UP Express, a train from Terminal 1 to Union every 15 minutes or so, taking about 25 minutes for $12.35. Other options are the TTC 900 bus plus subway (60-90 minutes), taxis and rideshare, and a pre-booked private car or shuttle van, which starts at a sedan planning figure of $130-160.
People search for a "Toronto airport shuttle to Union Station" expecting a bus with a sign on the front. Toronto does not have one; the old downtown airport coach stopped years ago and UP Express replaced it. This post lists what does exist, in the order you meet it after landing. For the booked car option, our Pearson to Union Station route is the booking page.
Is there an airport shuttle from Pearson to Union Station?
Not in the sense of a dedicated bus. The realistic choices are:
| Option | Where you board at Pearson | Time to Union | Cost | Runs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UP Express train | Terminal 1 UP station (T3 via Terminal Link) | about 25 min | $12.35 adult, children free | about 5:30 a.m.-1 a.m. |
| TTC 900 + subway | T1 and T3 bus stops | 60-90 min | one TTC fare | daytime and evening |
| TTC overnight buses | airport stops | 75-120 min with transfer | one TTC fare | overnight |
| Taxi or airport limo from the stand | terminal taxi stands | 25-60 min | zone-based flat rate | 24 h |
| Rideshare | designated rideshare zones | 25-60 min | varies with demand | 24 h |
| Pre-booked private car or van | pre-arranged commercial pickup area | 25-60 min | sedan $130-160 all-in | 24 h, flight-tracked |
Hotel shuttles only link the airport with nearby hotels, not downtown. Shared-ride van companies come and go; if you find one, check its drop-off points, because many serve hotels rather than the station.
Option 1: UP Express, the de facto shuttle
After customs and baggage claim at Terminal 1, follow the UP Express signs to the station inside the terminal complex. At Terminal 3, first take the free Terminal Link train to Terminal 1, then follow the same signs. Buy a ticket from the machine or online, or tap PRESTO or a contactless card, and board. The fares, verified on the UP Express fares page, are $12.35 for an adult single, free for children 12 and under, with a family fare at machines and group passes of $25-40 for three to five people online. At Union, you arrive on the west side, linked to the station by the SkyWalk.

Option 2: the TTC bus and subway
The cheapest way is the TTC. The 900 Airport Express bus leaves from Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 for Kipling station on Line 2. At Kipling, ride Line 2 east, change to Line 1 at St George or Bloor-Yonge, and ride south to Union. Expect 60-90 minutes on a single fare. The TTC's airport page has the current details. It suits a solo traveller with a backpack. With two suitcases, the stairs and crowds at the transfer stations are hard going.
Option 3: overnight TTC buses
After the subway closes, the TTC's overnight network serves the airport, including the 300A and 334A buses, with a transfer needed to reach Union. It is slow, but it runs when nothing else shared does. Check the TTC site for current routes before relying on it after a late landing.
Option 4: the taxi and limo stands
Pearson's on-demand taxis and airport limos wait at the stands outside arrivals and charge a zone-based flat rate set for the airport. They take you straight to Union's Front Street entrance or your hotel. There is often a queue at busy times, and the vehicle you get is the next in line. The official picture is on the airport's ground transportation page, and our guide to Pearson's airport limousine and taxi services explains the system.
Option 5: rideshare
Uber and Lyft pickups at Pearson are at designated rideshare zones by the terminal doors. Prices rise with demand, which is exactly when a wave of international flights lands. Our Uber vs taxi at Toronto airport post compares the two honestly.
Option 6: a pre-booked private car or shuttle van
A booked car is the private version of the shuttle. The chauffeur tracks your flight, and you have 60 minutes of included waiting on international arrivals and 30 on Canadian and US, counted from actual landing. The pickup is at the terminal's pre-arranged commercial pickup area; meet and greet in the arrivals hall with a name board is an optional add-on, planning figure $25-35. For groups, a Sprinter van seats 14 with bags and works as a private shuttle; see our private airport shuttle page.
| Vehicle | Passengers / bags | Pearson to Union, all-in (planning) |
|---|---|---|
| Business sedan | 3 / 3 | $130-160 |
| Executive SUV or luxury van | 6 / 6 | about $160-205 |
| Sprinter | 14 / 14 | about $280-345 |

Which option suits which arrival?
- Solo, backpack, daytime, Terminal 1: UP Express.
- Solo, tight budget, lots of time: TTC 900 and subway.
- Couple with two big cases, onward VIA train at Union: UP Express if you have an hour's margin; a car if the connection is tight.
- Family of five from Terminal 3 at 11 p.m.: a booked SUV, with car seats fitted.
- Group of ten arriving for a conference: a Sprinter, one vehicle, one fare.
- Landing at 2 a.m.: a taxi, a rideshare or a booked car; the train has stopped.
Connecting to VIA or GO at Union
If Union is not your destination but a connection, plan the margin. UP Express takes about 25 minutes, but add customs, baggage and the walk to the UP station at Pearson, then the walk from the UP platform through Union to the VIA or GO concourse. For an international arrival, three hours between scheduled landing and the train is comfortable; less is risky. Our guide on how to navigate Union Station has the transfer routes, and our Union Station page explains how our chauffeurs meet VIA and GO passengers.
A real arrival: the Okafor family from Lagos via London
Five people land at Terminal 3 at 3:40 p.m. on a Friday, with six suitcases, heading to a VIA train to Kingston at 6:40 p.m. On UP Express they would take the Terminal Link to Terminal 1, buy a family fare and cross Union with six cases to the VIA concourse: workable, with little slack. With a booked van, the chauffeur tracks the flight, waits through customs within the 60 included minutes, loads six cases and drops them on Front Street at about 5:30 p.m. in Friday traffic. Both get them to the train; the second is the one with less lifting.

Beyond Union: the last mile to your hotel
Union is rarely the true destination. If your hotel is in the Financial District or on the waterfront, a short walk or the PATH finishes the trip. If it is in Yorkville, the Annex, the Entertainment District or Liberty Village, you still need a subway, streetcar or taxi from Union, and that second leg is where the train loses its time advantage for travellers with suitcases. A car from Pearson goes straight to the hotel door. When comparing, count the whole trip to the bed, not just to the station. Our Pearson to downtown Toronto route covers hotel drop-offs across the core.
Winter arrivals
A January evening arrival changes the calculation. The UP Express keeps running in most snowstorms, which is a real advantage when the 427 is slow. The difficult parts are outdoors: waiting at a TTC bus stop with cases, or walking from Union to a hotel through slush. If you land in a storm, the train plus a short taxi from Front Street is a sensible mix. A booked car will still come, but it may take longer in traffic; the chauffeur's timing follows the actual landing, so you are not paying for delays. Check Environment Canada before you fly.
Accessibility and reduced mobility
Travellers who use a wheelchair or walk slowly should know that the airport and Union are both large buildings with long corridors. Airlines provide wheelchair assistance to the arrivals exit if you request it with your ticket. From there, a private vehicle that meets you at the pickup area avoids the Terminal Link, the UP platform and the walk through Union. Our wheelchair-accessible transfers page explains which vehicles suit which chairs, and the airport's passenger site lists its own accessibility services.
Common mistakes on the way into town
- Waiting outside for "the airport bus to Union"; there is no such coach.
- Taking the TTC 900 at rush hour with three suitcases.
- Planning a VIA connection an hour after an international landing.
- Getting into an unlicensed car offered inside the terminal; use the stands, the rideshare zones or a booked car.
- Forgetting that Terminal 3 passengers need the Terminal Link to reach UP Express.
Arriving at Billy Bishop instead?
If you are flying into Toronto's island airport rather than Pearson, the question is different: Billy Bishop is only a short distance from Union, reached by the pedestrian tunnel or ferry and then a car, streetcar or walk. Our sibling post on Toronto Island airport to Union Station covers that trip.
First-time visitors: the arrivals process first
Before you choose a shuttle, you clear customs. Most visa-exempt visitors flying in need an eTA; US citizens do not. Advance Declaration through ArriveCAN is optional at Pearson. The CBSA has the official rules, and our guide to arriving in Canada at Pearson walks through the halls. Allow 30-90 minutes from landing to the exit, depending on the time of day and the number of flights arriving together.
Booking a private shuttle to Union
Give us the flight number, the terminal, the number of passengers and bags, and the destination at Union or beyond. The fare is fixed before you confirm and includes gratuity. If the flight is delayed, the chauffeur's timing follows it.
