Transportation to Toronto Pearson airport includes UP Express from Union, Bloor, Mount Dennis and Weston; TTC buses such as the 900 from Kipling and 52A or 952 on Lawrence West; regional buses from Mississauga, Brampton and GO Transit; taxis and rideshare; pre-booked car services; and driving yourself to park. Rail and bus suit light travellers near the lines; cars suit families, luggage and early flights.
Pearson sits in Mississauga, on the western edge of Toronto, so the best way to reach it depends heavily on where you start. Our Toronto Pearson airport transfer page covers the airport itself, from terminals to pickup rules. This guide goes mode by mode, explains who each option really suits, and ends with a region-by-region table of planning drive times and fixed fares.
Transportation to Toronto Pearson airport: the eight modes
- UP Express trains.
- TTC buses.
- Municipal buses from Mississauga and Brampton.
- GO Transit regional buses.
- Taxis.
- Rideshare.
- Pre-booked car service, limousines and vans.
- Driving yourself and parking.
A ninth, the hotel shuttle, matters only if you are staying at one of the airport hotels the night before.
UP Express: fast, predictable, rail-side only
UP Express connects Union Station with Pearson Station at Terminal 1, stopping at Bloor, Mount Dennis and Weston; the operator advertises the full run at 28 minutes. It is the best choice for travellers who start near one of those four stations and can handle their bags on stairs, escalators and platforms. From Terminal 3, you ride the free Terminal Link train from Terminal 1. Check first and last trains and current fares on the UP Express website; it does not run through the small hours.
Suits: solo travellers and couples downtown or along the Kitchener rail corridor, with light luggage, at any time of day the trains run.
TTC buses: cheapest, slowest with bags
The TTC lists several routes to Pearson on its airport service page. The 900 Airport Express runs from Kipling Station on Line 2 in about 20-25 minutes. The 52A Lawrence West runs all day from Lawrence Station on Line 1, taking 50-75 minutes; the 952 is a weekday peak-only express on the same corridor. Overnight, the 300A, 334A and 352 fill the gap. All serve Terminal 1 and Terminal 3.
Suits: budget travellers near the subway with one bag, and airport workers. Less suitable with children, big suitcases or a tight check-in time.
Mississauga and Brampton buses
Because Pearson is inside Mississauga, MiWay routes reach the airport area, and Brampton Transit offers connections from Brampton. Routes and schedules change, so check MiWay and Brampton for the current services before you rely on them. For residents a short bus ride can be very convenient; with luggage, a transfer between buses is where it becomes hard work.
GO Transit regional buses
GO Transit operates regional bus services that call at Pearson, linking it with other parts of the region. Use the trip planner on the GO Transit website for your starting point; from some Halton, Peel and York communities a GO bus is a genuine option, especially outside rush hour. Note that GO trains do not serve the airport directly; rail passengers change to UP Express at Union, Bloor or Weston.

Taxis to Pearson
A City of Toronto taxi to the airport runs on the regulated meter, which starts at $4.25 and rises with distance and time, unless the brokerage quotes you a flat price when you book. From downtown the meter usually lands somewhere around $50-75 before tip depending on traffic. Taxis licensed in other municipalities follow their own rules. Our post on Toronto taxi rates and prices explains the meter in more detail.
Suits: one or two people with normal luggage, from inside the city, outside the rush hours.
Rideshare
Uber and Lyft drop off at the departures level like any other car. Prices are set by the app at the time of request, so the same trip can cost very different amounts at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Early-morning availability in the suburbs can be thin; if your flight is at 6 a.m., check whether drivers are active near you at that hour on a normal day.
Pre-booked car service, limos and vans
A pre-booked car picks you up at your door at a set time and drops you at your airline's departures door, at a fixed fare agreed in advance. With TorontoAirportTransfer.services the fare includes the chauffeur, vehicle, fuel, airport fees, 407 tolls if used and gratuity, plus HST; child seats are fitted on request. It is the only option on this list that is designed around luggage, children, groups and pre-dawn departures, and the only one that waits for you, with flight tracking, on the way home. Vehicles run from a three-passenger business sedan to a fourteen-seat Sprinter; our Toronto airport car service page explains the classes.
Suits: families, groups, travellers with heavy luggage, early flights, business travellers, anyone outside the rail corridor.
Driving yourself and parking
Pearson has its own parking products, from short-term garages to longer-stay lots, and there are private park-and-fly operators nearby. Prices vary by product and season and change often, so check the official Toronto Pearson website for current rates. Parking makes sense for short trips, especially for families who live close by. For a two-week holiday, parking fees can exceed the cost of a return car service, and you face a winter car covered in snow on your return.
Airport hotel shuttles
If you stay at an airport-area hotel the night before an early flight, many hotels run a shuttle or give directions to a shared shuttle. Frequency, hours and pickup points differ by hotel, so confirm when you book the room. Our post on airport-hotel shuttles vs a private transfer looks at when the shuttle works and when it does not.

Drive times are planning estimates for quiet traffic, not guarantees; always add a buffer for weather and rush hour.

Choosing by who is travelling
- One person, carry-on, near Union or the subway: UP Express or the TTC.
- Couple with two suitcases from the suburbs: a taxi or a sedan; transit transfers get tiring.
- Family of four or five: an executive SUV or luxury van with seats fitted; parking if it is a short trip and you live close.
- Group of eight to fourteen: a Sprinter, about 2.2 times the sedan fare, one pickup for everyone.
- Traveller who uses a wheelchair: a pre-arranged accessible vehicle; our wheelchair-accessible transfers are booked with the right vehicle confirmed.
Choosing by the time of your flight
Before about 6 a.m., transit is thin and rideshare can be patchy, so a booked car is the safest choice for dawn departures. During weekday rush hours, rail wins for anyone near it, because the train does not sit in traffic. Midday and evening, every option works and price becomes the deciding factor. Our guide on how early to arrive at Pearson helps you set the departure time from home.
Terminal 1 or Terminal 3 matters for every mode
Every mode on this list serves both terminals, but where you get off differs. UP Express stops only at Terminal 1; buses call at both; cars drop at the departures level of whichever terminal you name. Check your airline's terminal with our terminal finder before you leave, especially if you are on a partner airline or a codeshare.
Winter, long weekends and March Break
Snow slows every road option and sometimes transit too; allow extra time and check Ontario 511 before leaving. The Thursday and Friday before long weekends, the start of March Break and the days before Christmas are the busiest at Pearson, with fuller trains, longer security lines and heavier traffic on the 401 and 427. Booked cars fill up earlier on those dates, so reserve a few days ahead.
Mistakes we see on the way to the airport
- Taking UP Express with a Terminal 3 flight and not allowing time for the Terminal Link.
- Relying on a rideshare for a 5 a.m. pickup in the suburbs without a backup.
- Forgetting that the 952 express runs only at weekday peak times.
- Driving to park for a long trip without comparing the parking cost with a return car.
- Setting off for the wrong terminal.
Coming home: the reverse trip from Pearson
The same modes work in the other direction, with two differences. First, from the airport the stand taxis charge Pearson's flat zone rates, not the City meter, and rideshare pickups use designated zones at the terminal doors. Second, a delayed flight changes everything: the last train may leave without you, and a rideshare price can jump when several flights land together. That is why many people take transit to the airport and book a car home. A pre-booked pickup tracks the flight and includes 60 minutes of waiting after an international landing and 30 after a Canadian or US one, so a late arrival costs nothing extra.
Book the car if it is the right mode
If a pre-booked car suits your trip, enter your address, flight and party size on the booking page to see the fixed fare. Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup.
