Most first trips from India land at Toronto Pearson on a non-stop from Delhi or a connection through Europe or the Gulf. Allow 60 to 90 minutes from landing to the curb, declare every food item, and have the car booked before you fly: a business sedan to Brampton or Mississauga is a planning figure of $90–130, all-in plus HST. Toronto Pearson to Delhi needs three hours at the airport.
Toronto Pearson to Delhi and back: what a first trip actually looks like
A first trip from India is really two journeys: the long flight in, and the planned flight home, Toronto Pearson to Delhi, weeks or months later. This guide walks through both from the ground, the part airlines do not cover. For the booking itself, our India arrival car service page covers vehicles and planning fares for Mumbai and connecting travellers, and the Delhi arrivals page covers the non-stop from the capital. Here we focus on the first-timer: the student with two suitcases, the parents coming to see a new grandchild, the new permanent resident arriving with a family of four. Each of them faces the same questions at Pearson, and each has a slightly different right answer.
Which flights bring first-time visitors from India to Toronto?
Delhi has the most direct link. Air Canada and Air India both fly non-stop between Delhi and Toronto; Air India says its Delhi to Toronto service became a daily non-stop without a fuel stop from 1 August 2026, and the flight is scheduled at roughly 16 to 17 hours because of routings that avoid closed airspace. Travellers from Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kochi or Amritsar usually connect: through Delhi, through a European hub such as London or Frankfurt, or through Dubai, Doha or Istanbul. Schedules change by season, so check Air Canada or your booking rather than any article, including this one. For the car, only one thing matters: the flight number that lands in Toronto.
How long does it take to get out of Pearson after a flight from India?
Budget 60 to 90 minutes from wheels-down to walking out of the terminal on a typical afternoon, and up to two hours when several long-haul flights land together or when you are receiving a study or work permit. The steps are the walk from the gate, the kiosks and the border officer, baggage claim, then the exit. Our step-by-step customs guide covers each stage. International pickups include 60 minutes of free waiting from the actual landing time, which covers most first arrivals. If you are sent to an immigration office for permit processing, message dispatch: waiting beyond the first hour is billed in 15-minute blocks, and we tell you before the meter on waiting time starts.

What documents do Indian passport holders need at the border?
Indian citizens need a visitor visa, a study permit approval, a work permit approval or permanent resident documents; India is not on the eTA list. Carry the originals in your cabin bag, not in checked luggage: passport, the port-of-entry letter for students and workers, the confirmation of permanent residence for new immigrants, proof of funds, and the address where you will stay. Students should also carry their letter of acceptance. The officer may ask where you are going and for how long; the booked car's confirmation, with the destination address, is a tidy way to show it. The authoritative rules are with IRCC and the CBSA; we plan transport, not immigration.
What food can you bring from India into Canada?
Declare it all. Sweets, namkeen, masalas, pickles, dried fruit, ghee and homemade snacks are a normal part of Indian luggage, and declared food is often allowed, while undeclared food can bring a fine. Fresh fruit (mangoes are the classic), vegetables, meat products and some dairy are the items most likely to be refused. The honest advice from dispatchers who meet these flights: pack food in one suitcase, so that if an officer wants to inspect it, only one bag is opened. Advance Declaration in ArriveCAN is optional at Pearson and can shorten the kiosk step. Declaring food adds a few minutes; not declaring it can add an hour.
Which terminal will you land at, and where is the pickup?
Air Canada and Air India use Terminal 1. Some connecting carriers from the Gulf and Europe use Terminal 3. Check your final flight in the terminal finder the day before you fly, and send any rebooking to dispatch. The fixed fare includes curbside pickup at the terminal's pre-arranged commercial pickup area: once you have your bags, message the chauffeur, who tells you the door and the lane. For a first-timer who has never been to Pearson, airport meet and greet (a planning figure of $25–35) puts the chauffeur inside the arrivals hall with a name board instead. For parents travelling alone, it is worth every dollar.
How much does the first ride from Pearson cost?

Why luggage decides the vehicle more than passengers do
Indian first arrivals travel heavy. A student typically has two 23 kg check-in bags, a cabin bag and a backpack; a family moving to Canada may have eight suitcases and a carton. A business sedan takes three large bags, so two students sharing a ride already need an executive SUV or a luxury van, and a family of four with a year's luggage needs the van or, occasionally, a Sprinter (about 2.2 times the sedan fare, 14 seats and 14 bags). Count bags, not people, when you book. A chauffeur who arrives in a sedan for seven suitcases cannot make them fit, and a second car at short notice at Pearson is slower and dearer than booking the right one.
Three first-timer scenarios, and the car each one needs
- Priya, 21, arriving for a college program in Brampton. Two large bags and a backpack, landing at 4 p.m. on the Delhi non-stop. A business sedan is enough; her father in Delhi books it and receives the updates. Planning figure $100–130.
- Mr and Mrs Sharma, both in their sixties, visiting their son in Markham for three months. Three big suitcases of gifts and food. Meet & greet so they are not searching for a driver, an airline wheelchair for the long walk, and a sedan across the 401. Planning figure $145–180 plus $25–35.
- A new permanent resident family of four heading to Mississauga. Seven suitcases and two car seats for the children. Luxury van with an infant seat and a booster added at booking; allow two hours for landing formalities.
Child seats on the first ride
If you travel with young children, add the seats at booking; they are installed before pickup, and the charge is a planning figure of up to $10–15 each or free, depending on the booking. Choose rear-facing infant, convertible or booster by age and weight. Some Ontario rules exempt taxis and buses for hire from car-seat requirements, but we fit a proper seat for every child who needs one whatever the exemption, because a sleepy toddler after 17 hours in the air should ride as safely as at home. The province's car seat guide explains which seat suits which child, and our child car seat transfers page lists the models.
Jet lag and the first 24 hours
Toronto is nine and a half hours behind India in summer and ten and a half in winter. An evening landing feels like early morning, and most travellers are wide awake at 3 a.m. the first night. Some practical advice from chauffeurs who drive these runs: eat something light in the car rather than a big dinner on arrival, take a walk in daylight the next morning, and do not plan errands such as a bank account or a phone plan until day two. Students should confirm the residence check-in time before landing; many residences close their front desk at night, which is a good reason to book a car to the door rather than arrive by bus with no one to hand you a key.

Arriving in winter for the first time
January intakes are common for students, and a first arrival in a Canadian winter is a shock. Temperatures of minus 10 to minus 20 °C with wind are normal from late December to February. Keep a warm jacket, a hat and gloves in your cabin bag, not packed at the bottom of a checked case; the walk from the terminal door to the car is short, but it is outside. Our cars run winter tires and are warmed before the pickup. Snowstorms can slow the 401 badly, so the chauffeur checks Ontario 511 and Environment Canada before leaving the airport and chooses the route accordingly.
Can someone in India book and pay for the ride?
Yes, and it is common. A parent in Delhi or Pune can book on the website, pay by card, enter the traveller's name and mobile number, and receive the confirmation and the chauffeur's details by email. Put the traveller's Indian WhatsApp number in the notes: most arrivals have no Canadian SIM when they land, and Pearson's free Wi-Fi is enough to message the chauffeur on WhatsApp. The booking engine shows the full price before payment, with HST listed separately, so there is no surprise for the traveller at the curb, and nothing to pay in cash on arrival.
When the flight is delayed or the connection is missed
Connections through Europe or the Gulf break more often than non-stops. If the first leg from India leaves late and you miss the onward flight, the airline rebooks you; send the new flight number to dispatch by email or WhatsApp, and the pickup moves at no charge. Because every pickup is flight-tracked, even a delay you do not report is usually caught: the chauffeur is timed to the actual landing of the flight on the booking. The only time a missed connection costs money is when you are rerouted to another city altogether, such as Montreal, and do not tell us before the scheduled pickup.
Planning the return: Toronto Pearson to Delhi
Book the departure car when you book the arrival. International departures from Pearson need you at the terminal about three hours before the flight, and the drive from Brampton or Mississauga takes 20 to 40 minutes, from Markham or Scarborough 40 to 75 minutes depending on the 401. For a 10 p.m. Delhi departure, leaving Brampton at about 6 p.m. is sensible; leaving Markham at 5 p.m. is safer on a weekday. Our sibling post on Toronto Pearson to Delhi travel covers check-in, baggage allowances and the flight itself, and how early to arrive at Pearson explains the timing rules.
Heading back with more luggage than you brought
Return trips to India are famously heavy: gifts, chocolates, clothes and electronics for relatives. Two passengers with six bags need an SUV or van for the departure even if a sedan was fine on arrival. Weigh the bags at home; airline counters at Terminal 1 are firm on weight limits, and repacking on the floor of the check-in hall is how people miss the bag-drop deadline. The chauffeur loads and unloads, and at the terminal can bring the bags to a trolley at the curb. If you need wheelchair assistance for an older parent, request it with the airline in advance, and tell us at booking.
Changes and cancellation
Plans for a first trip change: visa appointments move, admission dates shift. Cancel more than 72 hours before the pickup and there is no charge. Within 72 hours the charge is 10 %, within 48 hours 50 %, and within 24 hours or a no-show, 100 %. Time is measured from the scheduled pickup, not from the moment you book. Flight delays and airline rebookings are not cancellations; they simply move the car. The full rules, and what counts as a change, are in the FAQ.
