From Niagara Falls to Toronto Pearson is about 125-130 km, usually 1 h 15 min to 1 h 45 min by car on the QEW and Hwy 403 or 427, longer on Friday afternoons or in snow. For a US or international flight, leave Niagara about 4 to 4.5 hours before departure; for a domestic flight, about 3.5 hours. A private sedan is a planning figure of $345-420 all-in.
The last morning of a Niagara trip is where most travellers lose sleep: checkout at 11, a flight at 4, and no idea how long the QEW will take. This post is the timing guide. Prices, pickup points and vehicles for the run itself are on our Niagara Falls to Pearson airport limo page, which is where you book; here we work through the clock.
Niagara to Pearson airport: how long does it really take?
The distance is fixed, the traffic is not. Dispatch plans the run in three legs: Niagara Falls to the Burlington Skyway on the QEW (about 50-60 minutes), the Skyway to the Mississauga split (20-40 minutes), then the 403 or 427 into Pearson (15-25 minutes). On a quiet Tuesday at 10 a.m. the whole thing is close to 75 minutes. On a Friday in July at 3 p.m. it can be two hours or a little more.
| When you leave Niagara Falls | Typical drive to Pearson |
|---|---|
| Weekday 5-7 a.m. | 1 h 15 min - 1 h 25 min |
| Weekday 9 a.m.-2 p.m. | 1 h 20 min - 1 h 35 min |
| Weekday 3-7 p.m. | 1 h 45 min - 2 h 15 min |
| Saturday morning | 1 h 20 min - 1 h 40 min |
| Sunday afternoon in summer, long-weekend Monday | 1 h 50 min - 2 h 30 min |
| Snow squall on the QEW or Skyway closure | add 30-60 min; dispatch calls ahead |
These are the ranges our chauffeurs plan with, not promises. The official live picture is on Ontario 511, and it is worth a glance the night before.
When should you leave Niagara Falls for your flight?
Add three things together: the drive, the airline's recommended arrival time, and a buffer. Airlines generally ask for about 2 hours before a domestic flight and 3 hours before a US or international flight at Pearson. Flights to the United States include US preclearance at Pearson, which is why they are treated like international departures. Our guide on how early to arrive at Pearson has the detail by terminal and season.
| Your flight departs | Domestic: leave Niagara by | US or international: leave Niagara by |
|---|---|---|
| 9:00 a.m. | 5:15 a.m. | 4:30 a.m. |
| 12:00 noon | 8:15 a.m. | 7:30 a.m. |
| 3:00 p.m. | 10:45 a.m. | 10:00 a.m. |
| 6:00 p.m. | 1:30 p.m. (avoid later) | 12:45 p.m. |
| 9:00 p.m. | 4:45 p.m. | 4:00 p.m. |
| 11:30 p.m. (overseas red-eye) | 7:15 p.m. | 6:45 p.m. |
The afternoon rows carry more buffer because they meet the westbound rush around Hamilton and Burlington.
Checkout day: a sample timetable for a 4 p.m. flight to London
A couple staying at a Fallsview hotel with a 4 p.m. flight to Heathrow (terminal checked on the booking the night before):
- 8:30 a.m. breakfast with a falls view; bags packed the night before.
- 9:30 a.m. one last walk along the Niagara Parkway railing.
- 10:30 a.m. checkout, bags to the bell desk.
- 10:45 a.m. chauffeur at the hotel's main entrance; bags loaded.
- 12:30 p.m. drop-off at the departures curb of their terminal.
- 12:45 p.m. check-in and bag drop, security by about 1:30 p.m.
- Two unhurried hours airside before boarding.
The ride sits neatly between the 11 a.m. checkout most hotels set and the three-hour arrival an overseas flight needs. If the flight were at 7 p.m., the same couple would do better to ask for a late checkout or spend the afternoon at Niagara-on-the-Lake on the way, which we cover below.

Is it cheaper to take the train or bus from Niagara Falls to Pearson?
For one traveller with a single bag, yes. GO Transit runs trains and buses between Niagara and Toronto, and VIA Rail has a service from Niagara Falls station toward Toronto; neither goes to the airport. The rail route means reaching Union Station and switching to UP Express for Pearson Terminal 1, with a walk through Union in between. Allow three to four hours door to door and check both timetables for your day, because weekend and weekday patterns differ.
Our sibling post on the cheapest way to get to Niagara Falls from Toronto runs the numbers in the other direction. The honest summary: transit saves money for a solo traveller; for two or more with luggage, the private car costs more per head but removes two transfers.
What a private car from Niagara Falls to Pearson costs
These are planning figures, one way, all-in (chauffeur, vehicle, fuel, gratuity, airport fees), HST shown separately. The reservation engine prices your exact hotel, date and vehicle before you confirm.
| Vehicle | Passengers / bags | Niagara Falls to Pearson (planning) |
|---|---|---|
| Business sedan | 3 / 3 | $345-420 |
| First-class sedan | 3 / 3 | about $520-630 |
| Executive SUV or luxury van | 6 / 6 | about $435-550 |
| Sprinter | 14 / 14 | about $760-925 |
There is no meter, so a stop-and-go QEW does not change what you pay. Families should look at the SUV row: six seats and six bags for roughly the price of four train-and-UP tickets plus a taxi at each end.
Leaving from Niagara-on-the-Lake or wine country instead
Many visitors spend the last night in Niagara-on-the-Lake rather than at the falls. The drive to Pearson is similar, typically 1 h 10 min to 1 h 40 min, because the old town sits close to the QEW at the Glendale interchange. A popular plan for an evening flight is a morning in the old town, lunch at a winery, and a mid-afternoon pickup at the winery door. Tell us the estate when you book so the chauffeur knows which lane to use. Our St. Catharines and Niagara-on-the-Lake page has fares from those addresses.
Terminal 1 or Terminal 3? Decide before you leave the hotel
The chauffeur drives to whichever terminal you give, and correcting it on the ramp costs time. Air Canada and most Star Alliance airlines use Terminal 1; WestJet, Porter and many others use Terminal 3, but airlines move, so check your booking or the terminal finder. If you do end up at the wrong one, the free Terminal Link train joins the two in a few minutes; the connection is explained in Terminal 1 to Terminal 3.
Five mistakes that make Niagara travellers miss flights
- Using the map app's midday estimate for a 4 p.m. departure. It shows current traffic, not the traffic you will meet at the Skyway.
- Forgetting the US preclearance step. A flight to New York or Florida needs the international arrival time, not the domestic one.
- Booking a taxi at the hotel door on the morning. In summer the rank can be empty at checkout time.
- Leaving the rental car return to the end. If you drove, the rental return and shuttle at Pearson add 30 minutes or more.
- Treating a long-weekend Monday like a normal day. Everyone leaves Niagara at once; add an hour.
Travelling with children or an older parent
A family of five needs more than seats. Book an SUV or van so the stroller and car seats fit, and ask for the seats you need at booking: infant, convertible or booster, on request. Ontario's child car seat guidance explains which seat suits which child; we fit a proper seat for every child who needs one. For an older parent, ask for the pickup at the hotel's covered entrance and allow an extra 20 minutes at Pearson for wheelchair assistance, which the airline arranges. Our child car seat transfers page has the details.
Late-night and red-eye departures
Overseas flights from Pearson often leave between 9 p.m. and midnight. That gives you a full last day in Niagara, but plan the evening carefully. Have an early dinner, collect bags from the bell desk by 6 p.m., and leave by 6:30-7 p.m. The QEW eastbound is usually easy after the rush; the risk is summer construction closures at night, which dispatch checks. A chauffeur-driven car means nobody in the family has to drive the Skyway after a long day on their feet.
Flying from Buffalo instead of Pearson
From Niagara Falls, Buffalo Niagara airport is closer than Pearson, often 35-50 minutes plus the border. It can make sense for US domestic flights. Our page on Toronto to Buffalo airport transfers covers the crossing, and the Buffalo airport site is here. For flights to Europe, Asia or within Canada, Pearson's network usually wins.
At Pearson: the drop-off and the first ten minutes
The chauffeur stops at the departures level of your terminal, lifts the bags onto the curb and, if you ask, fetches a trolley. From there the order is simple: check-in or bag drop at your airline's counter, then security, then US preclearance if you are flying to the States. Families should keep passports in one bag that one adult carries. If you have a late check-in cut-off to beat, tell the chauffeur on the way; they can use the door closest to your airline's counters rather than the first gap in the curb. Pearson's own passenger site shows live security wait times, which are worth checking from the back seat around the Skyway.

Weather: winter and the escarpment
Lake-effect snow off Lake Ontario and Lake Erie can make the QEW between Grimsby and Stoney Creek slow in December to March, and the Skyway is occasionally closed in high winds, sending traffic through Hamilton. Check Environment Canada the day before. On a bad-weather day, dispatch will call to move the pickup earlier; if the flight is at 9 a.m., we may suggest leaving before 5.
Checklist for the night before
- Passport, eTA or visa for your onward trip, and boarding passes on your phone.
- Terminal confirmed (T1 or T3).
- Pickup time and hotel entrance confirmed in your booking email.
- Bags weighed if the airline is strict; hotels usually have a scale at the bell desk.
- Car seats requested if needed.
- Any stops on the way (a winery, outlet mall) added to the booking so the fare reflects them.
Cancellation and changes if your flight moves
If the airline moves your flight, change the pickup in your booking or call dispatch. Our sitewide rule: more than 72 hours before pickup, no charge; 72 hours or less, 10 %; 48 hours or less, 50 %; 24 hours or less or a no-show, 100 %, measured from the scheduled pickup time. Moving the time on the same day is usually easy if a car is available.
