Windsor limo and airport car service covers three airports: Windsor International (YQG) in the city, Detroit Metro (DTW) about 45 km away across the border, and Toronto Pearson roughly four hours east on Highway 401. Our chauffeurs cross to Detroit themselves, with the bridge or tunnel toll in the fixed fare; the Windsor to Pearson run is quoted by the engine by address.
Windsor limo and airport car service: three airports, one question
People in Windsor and Essex County have an unusual choice. Windsor International Airport (YQG) is minutes from most homes but has a limited schedule. Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW), across the river, is a major hub with far more non-stop flights. Toronto Pearson is four hours away but has the widest range of international flights in Canada. A Windsor limo and airport car service has to serve all three. Our Windsor airport car service page is the booking page and covers pickup points and the crossings; this post helps you decide which airport to use and what the car trip to each involves.
Which airport should a Windsor traveller use?
A quick rule of thumb from dispatchers who run all three:
| Where you are flying | Usually best airport | Car time from central Windsor | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Western Canada | YQG or Pearson | 10–20 min / about 4 h | YQG if the schedule fits; Pearson for choice |
| US cities | DTW | 45–75 min incl. border | Many non-stops, US domestic network |
| Europe, Asia, India | Pearson or DTW | about 4 h / 45–75 min | Compare fares; Pearson avoids US transit rules |
| Caribbean and Mexico in winter | YQG charters, DTW or Pearson | varies | Seasonal YQG sun flights may fit |
Schedules change by season; check the YQG website and your airline before booking the car.
Windsor to Pearson: the long run on the 401
Windsor to Pearson is roughly 360 km, almost all of it on Highway 401 through Chatham, London and Kitchener-Waterloo's southern edge. Allow about 4 hours in normal traffic, and 4.5 or more when the GTA stretch from Milton to the 427 is congested. The chauffeur sets off with a stop plan: most passengers take one comfort break near London. Windsor is not one of our published fare bands; the engine quotes it by address, and it falls between our Kingston ($675–780) and Ottawa ($975–1,125) sedan bands. An SUV or luxury van costs about 25–30 per cent more.

Why take a car to Pearson instead of connecting from YQG?
A connection from Windsor to Pearson and on to Europe works well when both flights are on time. When the first flight is delayed or cancelled, the long-haul flight leaves without you. A car removes that risk: you reach Pearson with time to spare and check in directly for the international flight. Families with lots of luggage, travellers with non-refundable tour departures, and anyone flying on a separate ticket from Pearson often choose the car for that reason. The trade-off is four hours on the road versus about an hour in the air, plus airport time at both ends.
Crossing to Detroit Metro: how it works
Our own chauffeurs cross the border, so there is no change of car. The fixed fare includes the bridge or tunnel toll. Three crossings link the cities: the Ambassador Bridge, the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel from downtown to downtown, and the Gordie Howe International Bridge, which links directly to the 401. Dispatch checks published wait times and picks the crossing on the day. From central Windsor, DTW is typically 45 to 75 minutes including the border, longer at weekday rush hour. Our Detroit airport transfers page covers DTW's terminals and drop-off points.
Documents for the car to Detroit
Every passenger needs documents accepted by US Customs and Border Protection: a passport, a NEXUS card or another approved document, plus any visa or ESTA their nationality requires. Permanent residents of Canada who are not Canadian citizens should check their own requirements carefully. Coming back, the CBSA rules apply. Tell us the passengers' document types at booking; the chauffeur cannot help with admissibility, and a refused entry at the border is not something we can override. Our cross-border limo page explains what happens at the booth.
Limo service in Windsor, not just airport runs
The same chauffeurs work by the hour in Windsor and Essex County: sedan planning figure $130–150 per hour, SUV $160–190, 3-hour minimum. Common bookings are dinner and a show, a day of meetings between Windsor and Detroit, a winery afternoon along the Lake Erie shore, and visiting clients from the auto industry. Stretch limousines, party buses and coaches for weddings and proms come through vetted partner operators, priced in writing by a coordinator. The City of Windsor publishes local events that affect riverfront traffic, especially in summer.
Business travel: automotive, logistics and the border
Windsor's economy is tied to the auto industry, manufacturing and cross-border trade, and a lot of our Windsor work is business travel: engineers flying into Pearson for plant visits, executives shuttling between Windsor and Detroit, suppliers coming in from DTW. Corporate accounts can book repeat runs with the same chauffeur, a receipt per trip with HST shown separately, and a named passenger list. For roadshows that combine Toronto, London and Windsor, a single car booked by the hour for the day can be simpler than three separate transfers. Our corporate car service page explains accounts.

Coming home: Pearson to Windsor after a long-haul flight
The inbound run is the one people underestimate. After an overnight flight from Europe, a four-hour drive is best done by someone else. The car is timed to your actual landing, with 60 minutes of waiting included for international arrivals, and meets you at the commercial pickup area or inside with meet and greet. Most passengers sleep past Woodstock. For a family arriving at 4 p.m., expect to be home in Windsor between 9 and 10 p.m.; for a morning arrival, early afternoon. If you would rather break the journey, the chauffeur can stop in London for a meal.
Winter along the 401 west
The stretch between London and Windsor is flat and exposed, and in winter it gets blowing snow and whiteouts from Lake Huron and Lake Erie systems, occasionally with multi-vehicle collisions that close lanes for hours. Our cars run winter tires and chauffeurs check Ontario 511 and Environment Canada before leaving. On a bad day, dispatch may recommend leaving an hour or two earlier for a Pearson flight, or switching to DTW if the border is flowing better than the 401. If the highway closes, we reschedule without penalty.
A typical Windsor to DTW booking
- 5:30 a.m. Pickup at home in South Windsor for a 9 a.m. flight from DTW.
- 5:40 a.m. Dispatch has checked crossing waits; the chauffeur heads for the quickest one.
- 6:00 a.m. US primary inspection; each passenger shows their document and answers the officer.
- 6:45 a.m. Drop at the correct DTW terminal for the airline.
- 7:00 a.m. Passengers check in with two hours to spare before a domestic US flight.
For a US flight, two hours at DTW is usually enough; for international, three.
Choosing a vehicle for four hours on the 401
Four hours is long enough for comfort to matter. One or two travellers are fine in a business sedan; executives who plan to work or sleep often choose the first-class sedan, about 50 per cent above the sedan fare, for the quieter cabin and extra rear legroom. Families with luggage take an executive SUV or a luxury van, which also handle winter conditions better. Groups heading to a conference, a wedding or a plant visit take a Sprinter for up to 14. Every vehicle carries water and chargers; tell us about a laptop that needs power.
Stopping in London or Kitchener-Waterloo on the way
The 401 between Windsor and Toronto passes London and runs just south of Kitchener-Waterloo, and many trips combine stops: a meeting in London, a student to drop at a residence in Waterloo, or a relative to collect in Woodstock. Short comfort breaks are part of the fare. A planned extra pickup or drop-off is added at booking so the engine prices it, and the chauffeur plans the timing around it. If you only need the London leg, London to Pearson is a published band of $445–520 in a business sedan, and our London airport page covers YXU.
Windsor to Pearson in the other direction: early flights
For an early morning international flight from Pearson, the arithmetic is simple and unforgiving: three hours at the airport plus four on the road. A 9 a.m. departure means leaving Windsor at about 2 a.m. Some travellers prefer to leave the previous evening and stay at an airport hotel, which a car also handles. Others fly YQG to Pearson the evening before. The car is the right answer when the family has heavy luggage, when the YQG schedule does not connect, or when several people share the fare. Our guide on how early to arrive at Pearson sets out the check-in rules.
Seasonal peaks in Windsor
Demand for Windsor to Pearson cars rises in predictable weeks: the start and end of university terms at the University of Windsor and St. Clair College, the Christmas and March break holidays, and summer long weekends. Detroit runs peak around major sports and concert dates across the river and during big trade events in the auto industry. Book early for those weeks, and let dispatch know if your group might grow, so a larger vehicle can be held rather than found at the last minute.
Receipts and paperwork for cross-border trips
Business travellers crossing to Detroit often need clean paperwork. Every booking produces an emailed receipt with the fare and the HST shown separately; cross-border trips list the route and the crossing used. For company accounts, the passenger's name, cost centre and purpose can go in the booking notes and appear on the receipt. The chauffeur does not handle customs paperwork for goods; commercial samples or equipment crossing the border need their own documentation, which your company arranges before the trip.
How far ahead to book, and what it costs to change
Book Windsor to Pearson runs at least a few days ahead, and several weeks ahead for holiday periods. Free cancellation applies until 72 hours before the car is due; after that it is 10 %, then 50 % from 48 hours, then 100 % from 24 hours or for a no-show. Flight changes move the car at no cost. If your trip also takes you to eastern Ontario, the sibling post on Kingston airport limo service covers the other end of the 401.
